Window Motors: power issue

My team has already used up the 4 allowed CIMs on our Mechanum drive but still need to power our launcher. We were thinking or using the window motors to power two wheels to launch the game pieces. Does anyone have enough expirience with these motors to know if they are powerfull enough?

Mighty slow for launching, the Window motors are. At least, for a pitching-machine type of launcher.

Grab the FPs, BaneBots, or AndyMark motors/gearmotors instead; those will run faster and should have enough power. If they don't, it's easy to add a second motor of the same type (or third or fourth, if you're talking the BaneBots motors).

They are certainly powerful enough, but I don't think you'll find the necessary RPMs with the window motors without quite a bit of external gearing. May I suggest the Fisher-Price motors or BaneBots motors? AndyMark and BaneBots both offer gearboxes that give comparable output to CIM motors.

Thanks for the quick responses, we will definetly look into using those other motors.

I have also heard about CIM-U-LATOR motors, do these provide a similar power output to the CIMs or just use the same output shaft?

The CIM-U-LATOR is a Banebots product that runs a 2.7:1 spur gear reduction that inputs a RS 5xx or 7xx motor and outputs to a shaft the size of a CIM Motor 8mm with 2mm keyway with mounting holes matching those of a CIM. This allows the Banebots motor to be used with CIM compatible gearboxes with relative ease and the 2.7:1 spur gear reduction provides a similar free speed, in the case of the RS775-18 at 12v it is about 500RPM off.

Here is the curve of the RS775-18 at 12 volts according to banebots as well as the (RS550) which you can get a CIM-U-LATOR that holds 2 RS550/540 as opposed to only being able to hold one RS775-18. note you will need additional mounting hardware for two motors
