Week 1 recap
So for most of you, the troubles may be the time it takes to cad the robot before build or the trouble of the oh so horrible task of putting the water-jet cut piece of metal through a sanding machine but what is 2460's holdup?
Having a place to build. A couple days before the kickoff our principal condemned the old bus shed which has been converted to our shop for 6 years now. The building is condemned and was scheduled to be torn down on the 15th. The robotics team spent the first week gathering all of our parts, equipment ( what others would call "side tools" ), 4 FRC bots and 5-6 Electric cars. Where did we put them? All over the place, from the schools auto-shop (again, what others would call a storage shed) to the schools actual tractor shed, leaving all of our stuff exposed to nature and our lovely high school peers. Another little holdup is in the kop and funding. I know every school has funding problems, and I can clearly see that by their shops , so i'll leave that bit out. In our kop we had numerous parts that were factory cut, but the ends. Meaning that some of our andymark chassis connectors are smaller than the others, but no biggie we'll just.... steal from previous bots.Other than that. we have a half completed chassis and some rough sketches of bots that might of might not work, how is your season starting off? Goodluck to all - Kohala High School Robotics "E Ala E Na Paniolo" |

Re: Week 1 recap
Aloha from O'ahu,
Sorry to hear about your situation. We found ourselves in a similar dilemma during build season last year. We were told that we were goIng to be kicked out from our room and put in a storage container. Fortunately we'be established ourselves (we have a lot of bulky stuff) that it would be very troublesome to move us. Crossing our fingers that we don't downgrade from our current facility. As for progress, we've nearly finished with our CAD and starts milling our chassis at various shops. If you folks needed any parts or assistance we have plenty from the previous KOP and from orders for previous robots so feel free to ask . Good luck this season and hope to see you guys at the Hawaii Regional! |

My suggestion is to loosely document your trials and tribulations and how you overcame them. Then discuss these with the judges at your regional. This is the first year we havent had to move our buildspace (so I understand what y'all are going through). We've always considered it "just another challange". Good luck and let us know how it all comes out. Last edited by Daniel_LaFleur : 19-01-2012 at 11:53. Reason: spelling :/ |

Re: Week 1 recap
We didn't have a build space until two days before kickoff. Try having no heat up in the North East
Better yet, try finding a nice safe donted build space in West Philadelphia. Everything we went through is documented with pictures on our website http://www.atomicrobotics.com/ |

Re: Week 1 recap
Haha, thanks guys for.... the advice and support. We will be making it to the Hawaii regional. Fortunately we got a 10x10 space from the auto shop so we have about 5 bots somehow in there while we work, but we'll manage
. Thanks for the offers, if we need anything we know who to ask. Something simple this year.Yeah, we document all of our struggles and so far it's been.. fun. Last night our "storage crate" (an old E-Car container) nearly fell over and took our whole team to put it back to where it was, Thats Day 2 down for us. 4 and a half weeks left! ![]() |
