Re: Are last years minibot motors legal?

I'm admittedly a little shocked that the minibots didn't make a return this year. Based on the way FIRST was trying to hammer home the point that the programs should work together, it seemed like a good vehicle for that.

They probably heard the countless "Do not want"s on Chief Delphi, and decided to give minibots the axe for 2012. If only they could have done that for 2011...

Re: Are last years minibot motors legal?

Speaking of minibot motors and gear boxes, my new robotics class is having a heyday accidentally killing them... (We ordered the equipment last year, before I realized just how flimsy the things are.) If any FRC teams have old Tetrix motors and gearboxes that they are no longer using, and would be willing to donate them to an awesome class, I would really appreciate the assistance!

Slight side note to the question asked by the OP, but I think the way they tried to have the programs work together this year is via the game itself. The ramps are straight out of the 2011 FTC game - "Get over it". FTC students on our team, many of them first or second year members, when they saw that requirement said "Hey, we did that in 'Get over it' and can easily do that again." I would imagine we will see elements of previous FTC games incorporated into future FRC games. I wouldn't be surprised if in 2013 we have to do some kind of lift, like in this year's FTC game.
