girls: what's the lamest pickup line u've got from a guy at robotics comp?

I guess you would just have to talk to a few freshman just to realize that there are upper classman that are just as immature as they are!! I should've realized that along time ago, seeing how ever immature guy that lives in a 50 mile radius always seems to find me. Whether it be my cell phone number, where I work, or my screen name. It's rather freaky!! Some guys just need to grow-up!!

Yeah, like many of my other friends, they are a little on the immature side. Of course, those friends I don't talk to as much. Basically all they ever talk about all day is girls. I on the other hand, I prefer the knowledge of technology and how things work. particularly the fact that I just learned how to install a Hard Drive and CD-RW Drive just today (Which was my christmas present). I know, I know, some people think that's a simple job.

On the subject of door-holding: I am a feminist but i do not mind when a guy holds a door or pulls out a chair for me. Not all feminsts are flaming independance-screaming freaks that you seem to think they are. ((((sigh)))) Ok, i'm done yelling.

Anyway, as a feminist i am just aware that i can survive on my own. But i don't reject pleasantries from guys.

Feminism is a varied, evolving philosophy. It hasn't always been the same as it is today. It won't continue to be same in the future. Like everything else, the stereotypical image of feminism usually centers around the fringe - for better or for worse. It's not even remotely close to an accurate assessment of feminist's. I know a lot.

Read up on it some before you say you hate them. It's not feminists you dislike anyway, but some other attitude. Examine it.

OH MY GAWD! Thia was the EXACT reason I did not get on the robotics team!!!!!!!!!!!! Only, it wasn't the attidtude of the guys, it was the girls. The team is packed with a bunch of freshmen girls that, collectively, have the mechanical skills of a flippin' thumbtack and LESS INTELLIGENCE! The whole idea was, "Ohh, I'll join the robotics team because that's where all the smart guys are, and I need a date!" UGH! I am still sooooo [edit]very angry[/edit] about that. The thing is, more than half (I have insider info, my g/f is and has been on the team for quite some time) don't even show up to most of the meetings, letalone the comps.

By the way, about MOE....hehe, I hate to bring this up, but I feel so proud....I went to the most recent Ramp Riot at WHS...and team 347 (My school's team, the one Stacia's on) BROKE MOE! Hee hee....sorry....

First, you quoted Dave Lavery, program executive for solar system exploration at NASA. Beside that, he's got a wicked sense of humor. Don't flip out too much.

Now, isn't the purpose of FIRST to inspire students? If everyone who joined the program already knew everything and had an solid interest in science and technology, the impact of the program would be nonexistant. That's not the case, obviously.

Instead of wasting your energy on getting annoyed with these people and how you perceive their intention, why don't you try focusing on teaching them something?

Not everyone is receptive to new things. Some people, like me, are amazingly stubborn. It doesn't mean we're not worth the effort.

Open up.

Ok, how about you think about what I said before you jump to a reaction. The newbies have NO intention of learning ANYTHING about robotics. This is the point I was trying to make that obviously went WAY over your head. On top of the fact that they have the combined mechanical skills of an ANT does not make things any better. I am easily annoyed, and things like this annoy me. Would you appreciate being put on a back burner in favor of a bunch of young, inexperienced, immature kids who really have nothing to do with what the applied for? By the way, the last thing, "open up", was uncalled for. Chill.

I'm not one to go up to a girl and deliver an incredibly witty and thoughtful pickup line. The way I met Stacia was thus: Her name is stitched into the back of her bookbag, and I couldn't figure out how to pronounce it. I simply went up to her in study hall and said, "How do you pronounce your name?" It worked, despite the fact that it was not intended to. Hehehe....

I've found that I would rather have a girl hit me with a pickup line, for some reason. I'm not very outgoing with girls (due to bad rejection experiences) and if she's really worth it, she'll come to me.

I'll be happily celebrating my 6th month with Stacia on January 14th. YAY!

I don't jump to conclusions. I examine situations and call it like I see it. There is very little that goes over my head, even. I know what I read, I meant what I said, and there was nothing about your post that I did not understand.

FIRST, of course, is an acronym. We all know what it stands for, but do we know what it means?

FIRST is meant to inspire students. FIRST is aimed at those girls on your team. They don't know anything about mechanics, or electricity, or programming, or machining. They have no interest in it, either. They're perfect candidates for FIRST.

In my opinion, you do deserve to be put on the back burner. You sound like you're going to pursue technology no matter what happens, so why should I waste my energy on you when it's better spent on people who don't even realize the potential they have?

Your post did not go "over my head;" nor did your arrogance. Your intent was clear. Your intent seems selfish. You are an obstacle to my efforts.

Worry less about what other people are doing and worry more about what you could be doing to make things better for everyone.
