Netbeans stops working on inspiron 1100 after installing wpilibj

I am also having difficulties with Netbeans and this years plugins.
Tried both 6.7.1 and 7.1 on Dell D600 XP with 512M
At first I thought this was a memory issues so I added more memory (1 Gb).
No luck. We are using a desktop which loaded NB and this years plugins. This will not work at the competition.

I have tried so many combinations and wasting a great deal of time.

I am very frustrated with this software this year and do not know where to go for assistance.
