Computer Trouble

I am running Vista on a Toshiba computer. A couple of days ago I downloaded the newest version of Firefox (v. 9 I believe) and it will no longer interact with Google Applications (besides the basic search). To alleviate this problem I downloaded Chrome; Chrome will not open via the shortcuts, I have to open it using a link to a webpage. I would not normally post something like this, but I need to get a fully working browser as soon as possible because the team's Chairman's award submission (which I am in charge of) is on Google Docs.

Thanks in advance,
Miller
