p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
We recently purchased the p60 planetary gearbox for the banebot 550 motor and greased it up. It spins fine off the motor but when we attach the motor to it , the whole assembly jams. The motor spins freely with just the mounting plate attached to it and the gearbox spins freely. It is just when the two are attached that the problem occurs.

Re: p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
Likely that the bolts that connect the motor to the transmission are too long. Try cutting them down or buying shorter bolts.

I have a feeling that the 550 shaft might be a little long or that the gear might not be pressed onto the 550 far enough. I know we have run into problems like this in the past. |

Re: p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
The suggestion about the motor shaft being too long is the most likely scenario. We typically have to trim down the motor shafts after pressing on our pinions.
One way to check for this is to gradually loosen the 4 bolts that span between the mounting block and the face plate of the P60 and try to rotate your P60 output shaft as you go. If loosening these bolts eventually allows the assembly to turn, then the shaft length is sure to be your problem. One valuable hint on this shaft length fix is to press your pinion onto the shaft BEFORE trying to trim the shaft. It's much more difficult to press the pinion on after grinding the motor shaft. Also, be sure to tape up all the openings in the motor before grinding on the shaft so you don't get metal filings in your motor. Finally, don't let too much heat build up while grinding down your motor shaft or you could damage the motor. Hit it hard and fast or take your time and let it cool down between passes. |

Re: p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
Depending on the P60 gearbox the stages may not all be the same gear ratio. Make sure that when it was reassembled the stages are in the correct order. The motor pinion gear has to mate with the correct ratio. BB web site will tell you what the first stage gear ratio should be.

Re: p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
Given my experiences with the P60 gearboxes, I'd agree your most likely problem is that the pinion isn't pressed far enough and it's binding when you reassemble the transmission. Loosening the 4 long screws will help determine that as long as you keep everything aligned while you do so. Other possibilities:
You bent your motor shaft pressing the pinion on. You've forgotten the shim plate between the last stage and the motor mount block. The gears running over the screw holes and add some resistance, though it'd likely only freeze a very high ratio. |

Re: p60 Gearbox not working with motor.
Thanks for the help guys, we did like you said and pushed the pinion on farther and it works like a charm!
