DeWalt Drill Motor

We have a delima. My teacher says that we can use a dewalt drill with the dewalt motor straight off the shelf as it is a COTS item. However, I believe that the use of this motor doesn't fit into the rule on the limitations of motors. Who is right?

Re: DeWalt Drill Motor

[R48] bans the motor from being used.

However, the gearbox is legal, provided that you put an FRC-legal motor into it.

Re: DeWalt Drill Motor

Under NO circumstances can you violate the motor rules.

If by some completely wild chance the dewalt drill had a 775 or 550 motor that they bought from banebots then you are good to go. In reality it doesn't have that motor so you have to pull the motor off and replace it.

A COTS item doesnt' make the motor rule go away.

Re: DeWalt Drill Motor

Here's an excellent resource about interfacing FIRST legal motors with the Dewalt gearboxes.

Smile Re: DeWalt Drill Motor

Some DeWalt drill transmissions mount a 775 frame. So if you pull the pinion off the DeWalt motor, and press it on the legal 775 motor, you will have a quick, legal conversion.
