Re: Team 1458 Ball Collection Final Prototype

Nice Job!
My team is thinking of doing something similar, seems like a lot of teams are going to be using the spinning surgical tubing...

What gearbox / motor setup does the first spinning part (with the surgical tubing) use?
My team is having a hard time deciding on motors, as we have never really used anything other than CIMs and window motors.

We are using 2 fisher price motors on a Double Doozy gear box http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0576.htm

Interesting... Unfortunately, we don't have that kind of funding...

I think we will end up using Cimulators (or however its spelled), as they are relatively cheap...
Have you ever used these ^ before? anything you think I should know about em before we go and base everything on them?

Re: Team 1458 Ball Collection Final Prototype

Seems like a bit of motor overkill. You might be able to use that gearbox setup as your shooter instead. Further iteration will tell

We're using one FP-9015 for the intake, and another for the conveyor that leads into the shooter wheel. We're using a PG-71 for the intermediary conveyor, but that's because it only runs 9" (or 18", depending on final driver preferences).

Well, we already ordered a couple of the cimulators for our shooter, and we were considering using a window motor for some kind of conveyor belt... We just don't quite know what will work best for ball collection, because it has to be a tad on the fast side, and have enough torque to handle collecting the balls with our drivers doing what they do best (drive it like ya stole it).

I assume a cimulator will still work for collection, even though it's overkill?
Would you recommend trying to use one of the two motors you mentioned for collection?

Good job!

How are you going to feed the balls into your launcher only when you want to launch? This is an interesting problem because the lower balls will try to push the top ball in.

That top wheel is our "trigger" system the ball is stopped there and then when we wish to fire the motor turns allowing the ball to enter the shooter and then it fires.
As for the motor to be overkill while this maybe true this year we are trying to cut down on wait and so far we are only using 3 cim motors on the robot so far.
