Panel light wiring
Does anyone know how to set up the the panel light? I have heard "slot 4" but have no idea what this means. Is there any documentation for setting up the panel light?
I looked in the getting started with the control system guide but there was nothing there about the panel light. I am referring to the orange light that goes on the robot by the way. |

Re: Panel light wiring
J,
The correct term is the Robot Signal Light or RSL. It connects to the digital side car. There is a two pin, white connector near the power LEDs. On the board next to the connector is also an LED. IF that is not ON, the RSL will never turn on. |

Re: Panel light wiring
Is there a wiring diagram for the robot signal light?

Re: Panel light wiring
Yes. It's detailed as part of the Robot Power Distribution Diagram (there are three of them; I linked to the one intended for use with 12 volt pneumatic solenoid valves). You can find the official link on the 2012 FRC Robot Electrical Information page, which is itself reachable from the 2012 FRC Kit of Parts Home page.

Re: Panel light wiring
My team's digital Sidecar has the blinking light on the board, but the RSL refuses to blink (new one; 2012 in KoP) and I have tried switching the wires. I hope that it is not burnt out, even though I can't see for there to be a reason for it, but can anyone explain?
Thank you in advanced! |

Re: Panel light wiring
The positive lead should be attached to the two outside ports on the light itself (you can use a small jumper wire to achieve this) and the negative lead should go in the middle. I doubt it is burnt out, it just sounds like you don't have a jumper across the first and last ports.

Re: Panel light wiring
Do you have a previous year's robot handy? Borrow a big orange blinky light that you know works and try it on this year's Digital Sidecar. That'll help narrow down the possible problems.

Re: Panel light wiring
Our 2010 is the only "standing" FRC bot left and that light worked at one point. I will try rewiring it and see if the problem is fixed.
Thanks again for the speedy responses! |

Re: Panel light wiring
Marco,
On occasion I have seen defective lights. Most often though, the wiring is the problem. Try removing the wires from the RSL connector and reterminate them. Then check that the DSC connector is fully mated on the pins on the board. |
