How to wire a SMC Solenoid Valve SY5220-5DO-C6 ?

http://content.smcetech.com/pdf/SY3.5.7.9000.pdf

Page Number 18.

It is a 24VDC double solenoid valve.I just couldn't find anyway to wire it.I mean which port is positive and which is ground ? And there is also one more port on it.Also , it writes "1" next to one of the ports and "2" next to another.

Which style of connector are you using? Typically, the black wire goes to "ground" and the red wire goes to the pin you're using to control the solenoid. For a 24 volt solenoid, you will be using the Solenoid Breakout board on the NI 9472 digital sourcing module in slot 3 of the cRIO. Follow the Robot Power Distribution Diagram (24V Solenoid).

I am making my own wires. There are no wires coming out from the solenoid valve so I need to decide which pin should be wired to the red wire that goes to the breakout and which should be wired to the black.

Except of that , I know that it should be wired to the solenoid breakout.

Just to clarify: you aren't using a connector designed to plug in to the pins on this series of solenoid valve?

Re: How to wire a SMC Solenoid Valve SY5220-5DO-C6 ?

Given your part number is a DIN connector, you will need to put some wires to the DIN connector. Remove it from the valve, take out the screw on top and separate the wiring.

Then have a look at:
http://literature.rockwellautomation...a548_-en-p.pdf

It shows some connections for rockwell's connectors, but the type is an ISO standard, so I would look at the pictures and try and match it to yours. You could then put a ohm-meter on the coil connections to see if you see a connections (should be low, but not 0).

Hope this helps.

Re: How to wire a SMC Solenoid Valve SY5220-5DO-C6 ?

Be aware that the Cv value for that solenoid is 0.33 (P->A/B) which is very slightly over the 0.32 that is allowed by FIRST [R71-C]. The only SY5000 series solenoid which is below 0.32 is the -C4.

Also note that this solenoid specifies 6mm diameter tubing, which is OK by the rules, but different from the 1/4" tubing in the kit. I think they do fit together, but I don't know if they provide a reliable seal and are easily removed.

I'm no expert in pneumatics, but have had to do a lot of learning for FIRST.
