Reflective Tape

My team is trying to test the camera, we want to find the reflective tape with it. the question is are there any suggestions for what color the board that we put the tape on should be. currently we have a set of blue designed stuff. we thought white would work well but it is really close to the color of the tape.

Re: Reflective Tape

I say you should get as accurate as possible - read section 2.2.4 for details on what will actually be on the field.

Re: Reflective Tape

-the only problem we are gonna have with that is the blue design. our backboards arent clear like they are in the real arena. our plan is the reflective tape is gonna have the black tape like the diagram shows. we werent sure if the blue design would throw the camera off. our counter to that was to tape up some kind of alternate colored paper. thats where my question applys.

Re: Reflective Tape

That all depends on how you're detecting the retro-reflective tape. This tape is like like what you see on road signs at night - it reflects light back towards the source (on the road, that means reflecting your headlights back towards your car so you can see the signs, instead of up into the sky). In order to get it to work the best, you'll need to shine some sort of light up at the target for the camera to be able to more easily pick it out.

If you're shining a blue light at the target, then your blue background could cause a problem. If you're shining a red light at the target, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Reflective Tape

We've done a ton of research into how to do this, and every method ended up with the same result; It works, but intermittently, and not with alot of accuracy. Overall, we've decided it's not worth it, and we're relying on the human element for aiming. If you find a good, reliable method, lplease let me know. I'd appreciate it.
