Where to get Lunacy wheels

We want to look into getting some 4" Lunacy wheels for our robot, but I can't find them on AndyMark anymore. Does anyone know where I can still get them?

Re: Where to get Lunacy wheels

If you can get 4inch Omni wheels, I'd think those would be a better option. 111 had a long base robot back in 2006 and we used 2 omni wheels and 2 traction wheels. If you zoom in on this picture, you should be able to see them.

I wish I could post a better picture, but our photo album doesn't seem to want to work for me.

I am not sure, but I think he needs them for something other than the drivetrain

From another thread, it is definitely the drivetrain. Said drivetrain happens to be a wide drivetrain; omnis may cause it to rotate too freely.

4" Lunacy wheels do not exist.

Lunacy Wheels were only made in 6" OD.

Re: Where to get Lunacy wheels

I don't think AndyMark ever sold 4" hard plastic wheels. The 2009 6" wheels are out of stock http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0284.htm. Based on them not appearing in a search of the site, my guess is that they've been discontinued. The 2010 8" hard plastic wheels are still available http://www.andymark.com/product-p/am-0494.htm

Re: Where to get Lunacy wheels

FWIW, the Lunacy wheels were 6", not 4". I don't know if that affects your needing them or not. I would suggest trying to find a local team that has some extras, or took apart their 09 robot/modified it with traction wheels for demos.

Edit: beat to it by 2 people

Great robot! We're torn between using omnis and Lunacy wheels. Omnis would make it easier to turn, but there's too little friction with the floor, also leaving us easily pushed. Plus, we'll have a little more grip on the bridge with Lunacy wheels.

I'm not putting down omnis, but I've heard that between the two, lunacy wheels are the better choice.

Lunacy wheels will not give you more traction than an Omni on the bridge. Hard Plastic to Hard Plastic is one of the worst traction scenarios that I can think of. Omni wheels have rubber rollers that will give much better forward/reverse traction than a lunacy wheel while on the bridge.

Why not colson wheels then? They have great grip on the bridge. Also, not sure how the lunacy wheels have good grip on the bridge...

For some reason, I thought omni wheel's rollers were made of a slipper plastic. That changes things.

Still, while omnis may turn better, they may be too much turn.

Re: Where to get Lunacy wheels

We actually needed to buy some last year for our drivetrain. We were using them for a skid. We actually ended up having to buy them from another team with extras and had them shipped to us. You may want to make a post asking for teams to sell them to you.
