ToughBox Axles Not Up To Spec?

Hey all,

We've been having some issues with our single ToughBox gearbox. It arrived last week, and so far, we've found out that the short internal shaft seems to not have been lathed down enough and the hex-shaft is protruding out a mm or so. This causes the face of the gearbox to lift up a bit. I checked all the bearings, and they all face in like I believe they should. If I take the set of bearings on the polycarb plate and flip them so the bearings face outside (smooth surface inside), the problem goes away.

Also, the main output gear has some play in it at any time. I scavenged a spacer from the KOP, think it was for the circular linear guide, and it works, but I have no idea whether I should need to do that.

Help!

As for the output gear having play in it, our team has about 6 ToughBoxes and each one has play in it.

Re: ToughBox Axles Not Up To Spec?

I think AndyMark is struggling a bit this year to fill everyone's orders.

Our Cim-Sim's had axles so tight that they broached when AndyMark inserted them into the bearings. We had to use an arbor to press them back out and turn them down.

One of our toughbox mini axles was significantly undersize (it had a ton of play in it). Unfortunately it was one of the long axles that we had waited on. As always, AndyMark immediately replaced it.

Give them a call. They'll make it right immediately, like they always do.

First, re-verify that you've read all the documentation from the AndyMark website, and have assembled the gearbox accordingly.

Then, take a few pictures of the problem.

Attach those pictures to an e-mail to AndyMark with the description above, or call AndyMark and describe the problem to them (offering to e-mail pictures). (Usually they're quite prompt with a resolution.)

Let us know about the results (post in this thread).
