Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Ok, so is anyone else having problems acquiring the file? I download the .zip file, but there isn't any excel file to be found. If someone has been able to get a hold of it, could they please post below with it as an attachment?
Thanks,
-Duke

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Duke,
The file in the link above is an .xlsx file, not a zip file. If you have a previous version of Microsoft Office, you need to have an update that can convert the file to your version of Office. If you haven't kept up with the revisions to Office then let me know. I will see if I can get a backwards compatible version posted.

Maybe you accidentally clicked the link "Robot Quick Build Information" instead of the correct one, "Inspection Bill-of-Materials (BOM) Template". When I clicked on the BOM link, I got the .xlsx file as expected.

They've simplified it this year. Now there's only one tab (not counting the readme tab), as opposed to last year's separate tabs for KOP and Non-KOP. Does that mean they only want to see non-KOP items listed? Or should we include KOP items also, with a price of $0?

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

I'm going to partly answer my own question. The "Read Me" tab of the template says:
Quote:
All parts required by The Robot Section 4 should be entered into the BOM. ... Any item that was included in the Rookie KOP but not the Veteran KOP should be considered a KOP item and indicated on the BOM.
It looks to me like we should include all parts, and KOP items get a price of $0. Does anyone interpret that differently?

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

I figured it out. The link downloads as 2012_Inspection_BOM_Template.xlsx.zip
I simply told it to open with microsoft excel instead of trying to unzip and extract, and it worked. Thanks for the input though, guys.

Confirmed:

it Downloads as "2012_Inspection_BOM_Template.zip"

I had to rename the file and change the extention to .xlsx and it works perfectly.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

xlsx (and docx and pptx) files are contained in a zip file. If you change the extension of those files to zip, you can see all the underlying XML that stores your documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Yes, KOP parts (why does that sound redundant )list at $0.00. That's how it worked last year.

The reason I question this is that the template has as it's main heading "Non-Kit of Parts Inspection Bill of Materials"

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Jim,
The title is a holdover from last year which had a sheet for KOP already filled out for you. This year there is so many parts available through KOP, First Choice, ARA, voucher and rookie KOP is was very difficult to get everything listed for you. If it makes it easier, simply copy the sheet and enter a KOP sheet with $0.00 entries. The Robot rules Sec. 4.1.3 tells all for this item. Your list also assists inspectors when looking for parts on your robot. This year you can also simply have a laptop (preferred) or your Classmate showing the BOM or you can have it printed out as in the past. We will not be collecting the data this year but you will need to display the BOM at all events.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

So are KOP items required on the BOM?

How do we deal with parts from pervious KOP's like the Banner Photoeyes from last year?

The total cost of all non-KOP items shall not exceed $3,500.00 USD. All costs are to be determined as explained in
Section 4.1.3: Budget Constraints.
The following items are excluded from the total cost calculation:
A. items listed on any KOP Checklist (qty is limited to the total listed in the most recent checklist),
B. items obtained via a Product Donation Voucher included in the KOP,
C. items ever distributed to the team via FIRST Choice,
D. any non-functional decorations,
E. individual fasteners, adhesives, or lubricants that are less than $1.00 each,
F. spare parts, and
G. parts of the Operator Console.

The question with that is, is it the most recent checklist, ie. this years, or the most recent with THAT item? And for Banebots, would we deduct the motors that were given last year or the 30 dollars given this year?
