Frame's Height

Hello everyone,

We want to know if there's a rule about the max height of the frame from the floor.

We couldn't find any rule about it.

When starting, and when you're on your player station side of the field, 60". When you're trying to score on the far side, 84".

If you are talking about the frame as defined by the frame perimeter, Its height is defined by the bumper zone height, 2"-10". Nothing aside from the appendage can project past that. Anything inside of the frame perimeter is only controlled by the robot envelope. So from a rules perspective between 0 & 60".

[G20]
Robots in contact with the carpet and/or Key on their Alliance Station end of the Court are limited to 60 in tall. Otherwise, Robots are limited to 84 in tall.
Violation: Foul; or Technical-Foul for repeated or continuous violation.


[R02]
The Robot must satisfy the following size constraints:

A.horizontal dimensions must not exceed 28 by 38 in.,
B.the absolute height must not exceed 84 in.,
C.the height of the Robot at the start of the match must not exceed 60 in.,
D.any appendage may not extend more than 14 in. beyond the frame perimeter, and
E.no other part of the Robot may extend beyond the vertical projection of the Frame Perimeter (with the exception of minor protrusions permitted per [R01-2]).

Ok I'm not sure you understood my question, I'm talking about the frame only -not the robot. The bumpers have to be between 2-10 inches off the floor but can the frame be say 12 inches from the floor for example?

Since the bumpers have to attach to the 'main structure/frame' (R28) you'll end up having to extend your 12" high frame downward at least every 7" or so (R33)) Or at least have some other 'robust' mounting points at the bumper height with sufficiently close spacing.

The short answer is no.

Your frame at 12" high is outside the bumper zone (2"-10"). It sticks out past the frame perimeter the least little bit, you will be asked to fix it. The frame perimeter is defined by the exterior vertexes of the robot structure that is in the bumper zone.

First of all thanks for the answer,
and second- if the bottom the channels which form the frame is within the bumper zone but the top part isn't, is this a legal situation?

I'm basing this speculation on [R01-2]:
"The Robot must have a Frame Perimeter that is comprised of fixed, non-articulated structural elements of the Robot.
The Frame Perimeter of a Robot is defined by the outer-most set of exterior vertices on the Robot that are within the
Bumper Zone, which is between 2 and 10 in. from the floor..."

It says "outer-most set of exterior vertices"- can I pick those to be the lower vertices(at a little lower than 10"" height) or are they the top vertices(at almost 12"")

You don't get to pick.

The frame perimeter is defined as the outermost set of exterior vertices anywhere from 2" to 10" above the floor. No other part of your robot, above or below, may protrude beyond the imaginary polygon created by connecting those vertices.

If any part of your frame is at or below 10" and it is the largest thing in the bumper zone, it will define your frame perimeter. Nothing above that can be any larger.
