Talking Inconsistent Balls

Our team has found that our balls have different densitys. Out of ten balls there were two balls that were about the same.

Anybody have any ideas about if the balls at competition will be about the same?

Thank You,

Re: Inconsistent Balls

They are using the same balls at competitions. So you should expect them to be different densities. I dont see this being a problem, but if it is for your team then you may want to redesign something, and quickly. Nothing is going to be perfect, and you shouldnt expect it to be.

TubaMan is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Inconsistent Balls

I think it would really depend of how much use the balls have got. Also that some balls might have torn up or damaged in some way. If that helps any.

Re: Inconsistent Balls

Balls will be different densities at the competition too. You have to design around this. We found that the newer, harder balls go further, and the more used, squishier balls don't go as far.

So, you have a window of shooting where the newer balls go further, hit the backboard and get in, and from the same distance and setup, the older balls will go straight into the hoop.

See what I mean? You can get them both in, but the one going further will rebound from the backboard while one dunks.

Re: Inconsistent Balls

We have noticed the same problem, the balls that are warn out more tend not to shoot as well as newer ones. We fixed the problem by keeping them away from the freshman and making sure people do not step on them.

Re: Inconsistent Balls

There have been several post about the balls being inconsistent. All the balls will be different no matter if they are new, old, damaged, or spotless. So you are going to have to make your shorter some how take the inconsistency out of the equation.
