Right, but there are two problems to deal with for the application I was considering. First, I want to be able to turn the 12 volt circuit on and off under program control. Second, and rather more important at this time, is that every POE injector I've ever seen uses AC power from a wall outlet. Those are understandably rare on an FRC robot.

Re: Wiring Ring Light?

The other problem is you will get the inspector that wants to know why you are not using the correct colors for power.

It is 48V at the input, where does that come from on a FIRST robot? So now one is taking 12V, bucking it up to 48V then "extracting" it (not a lossless process).

I like Alan's idea, to let +12V ride on unused pairs on a TP cable.

I've successfully powered the camera by patching into the unused pairs of an Ethernet cable near each end. It's not pretty, but if I can find some small panel-mount jacks I plan to try making an enclosure with two Ethernet jacks and four Anderson Powerpole connectors as a self-contained injector. The same device could be mounted at the other end to break out the connectors.

I've yet to test powering the ring light but will do that next.

Re: Wiring Ring Light?

My team is trying to hook up the ring light. I already have a terminal strip in place, but we do not know which side is positive and which is negative. I have looked on andymark, the vendor's website, and many different threads on chief delphi. Do you guys know which wire is which? I was assuming the one that is tinted copper is positive, but I don't want to plug it in until I know for sure.

LEDs are diodes. If you hook them up backwards, they won't turn on, but there won't be any damage.
