Re: Team 3528 Robot

Ew, a scissor lift.

Cool, one that actually works.

Legit, this thing looks solid. I would take care to really strengthen that thing up. Nothing shows the fragile nature of scissor lifts like taking a head on collision with a 120 lb robot.

Re: Team 3528 Robot

I really believe it depends on if the dumper is quick and accurate. If a shooter and a dumper take the same number of shots and the shooter's going for top hoop and the dumper's going for middle... the shooter just has to make 2/3 shots or better to outscore the dumper (assuming the dumper is 100% accurate).

Lets say a really good shooter is close to 100% accurate as well, well then the dumper has to outpace the shooter and get 3 baskets per the shooter's 2 to stay even with them.

It's a pretty interesting situation to me. Esspecially if alliances use ball management strategies or passing/feeding. Two robots feeding balls to an accurate 3 pt shooter or 3 robots gathering and taking as many shots or dumping as much as each can...

Re: Team 3528 Robot

I really liked your team's defense strategy last year, but it's great to see 3528 transition to a legit scorer in its second season.

The scissor lift is pretty strong. It doesn't wobble much when it get hit hard, so we are happy with it. Its very accurate and durable.

Make sure that your scissor lift is too strong, and what's on top is never too heavy. 256 had a scissor lift a few years back. It was the heaviest part of our robot, and our electronics were right underneath it. We got hit pretty hard, and our scissor lift broke, the part it lifted fell, and I think you can figure out the rest. :|

Also, thanks frasnow!

Oh yeah its definably not to light. We have made sure that is not to heavy because the worm gear needs help lifting it up. We are actually 0.8 lb over, so we are going to cut some of the dumper down.

Re: Team 3528 Robot

The only thing I worry about is you guys getting pushed around a lot while trying to score with those mechanums. Speaking from personal experience, (68 had mechanums last year) I can tell you that any robot with 6/8 wheel drive is going to shove you all over the place.

Besides that the robot is great! We'd never go with a scissor lift as they have to be made perfectly, but it looks like you guys knocked it out of the ball park.

Thats very true, mechanism are not the best for traction. We did want a robot that could move around quick and get balls fast, so it depends what the other "defender" robots have for a drive train.

Thanks so much! This is our teams second year and our first time doing a scissor lift. Good luck to you all!

Back to a more on-topic post: Team 2084 is using Mecanums again this year, but we won't be able to be pushed around very much (at least not like the one in this video).

Re: Team 3528 Robot

I'm guessing you have drop down wheels, or you have a 8 wheel mechanum crab drive.
