Question Chairman's Award and NASA

If you're a rookie team, are you required to fill out the Chairman's award if you're part of the NASA grant regardless??

If so, is the DVD portion due February 16th or the day of the Competition in March?

Re: Chairman's Award and NASA

  1. You are required to submit the Chairman's essay and the responses to the executive summary questions.
  2. If for some reason you do not make the deadline you can mail the responses to ARC-FRC-Reqs@mail.nasa.gov
  3. Rookies cannot interview for nor earn the Chairman's Award.
  4. The DVD requirement is necessary to complete the interview process, which you will not do. Doing a DVD is good practice but not required by NASA.
  5. Completing this requirement is part of the NASA contract and is required for teams that want to apply for 2nd year funding.

Re: Chairman's Award and NASA

So we just have to answer the format and submit a copy to NASA?

Re: Chairman's Award and NASA

That's it, just write it up and submit it. Six questions and one essay. It is a little tough for a rookie but try to understand what the Chairman's process is about and express it accordingly.

Chairman’s Award Submission 2012

Executive Summary
  • Examples of role model characteristics for other teams to emulate ( 500 characters max. )
  • Describe the impact of the FIRST program on your team and community with special emphasis on this year and the preceding two years ( 500 characters max. )
  • Team's innovative methods to spread the FIRST message ( 500 characters max. )
  • Describe the strength of your partnerships with special emphasis on this year and the preceding two years ( 500 characters max. )
  • Team's communication methods and results ( 500 characters max. )
  • Other matters of interest to the FIRST judges, if any ( 500 characters max. )
Essay - ( 10,000 characters max. )
