Setting up the Kenetic

Just thought I would ask for some Rookie advise again. Our team is going to start setting up the Kenetic station and would like some advice as to how to do it. We are probally getting to late into the build session but we thought we would give it a try.

Were do we start and where do we plug it into? Any issues for programming?

Thanks for being a wonderful resource?

Re: Setting up the Kenetic

When you say Kenetic I think you mean Kinect. What language do you program in?

Re: Setting up the Kenetic

Ok, I'm not familiar with Labview. We program in c++ but i can help you with setting it up. You need to make sure that you have the Kinect SDK from Microsoft and install it on your classmate. You also need all the drivers. Then after that you plug in the Kinect to your classmate. Thats setting it up but programming it i dont know, sorry.

Anything else just let me know.

Follow this document and that should get you started: http://firstforge.wpi.edu/sf/go/doc1300?nav=1

When you go to download the FRC Kinect Server, grab the LabVIEW examples that are right next to it.

Re: Setting up the Kenetic

If we are using two joysticks then we must have two computers correct?
Use the classmate for the Kinect Autonomous actions and use a second computer being a laptop for the Joysticks in TeleOperator mode???

Otherwise only two usb's on classmate...and can't use Kinect???

Or is there another way that I'm missing???

Re: Setting up the Kenetic

Only one Driver Station computer.
You'll need to have a small USB hub to plug in multiple USB devices.
Keep it small though, like a 4-port hub. More than that can become a power draw problem, since it'll be an unpowered hub.

Re: Setting up the Kenetic

This might be of some help: http://team1912.com/docs/kinectmanual.pdf

We Beta Tested the Kinect in LabVIEW and wrote a small manual for it at the start of build season.
