If you know and expect the image to be distorted, you may want to modify the test scores a bit. Again, you are trying to exclude the false image targets and include the real ones. I don't believe the default Java code does the hollowness test, but that is key to ignoring other bright rectangles in the image. Also, another discriminator you can use is to use the bounding box of good scoring particles as the ROI (region of interest) for edge detection or other advanced localized processing. Once you have more edge info, you can look at various corners or edges and use the math to estimate the distance and location.
