Driver Station Enhanced IO

I'm trying to set up an input for the cypress module using the Driver Station Enhanced IO in the command based programming structure. How would you go about doing this in the OI.h and OI.cpp files? Is there another way besides "dsio = new DriverStationEnhancedIO.GetInstance().GetEnhancedI O();" to use the enhanced io (this code was taken from the example in the WPI User Guide)?
