Tippy Falling Robots :D

So the other day one of the mentors was driving our collaboration robot. While driving it, it seemed to be ok but when when drove on the bridge. Things turned bad fast. Luckily nothing broke the battery just fell out. It was later discovered that the problem was the battery and compressor were to far back, so moving them forward and closer to the ground will stop this from happening.

Hate to break it to you, but your bridge appendages are not going to be legal, because they are not one contiguous appendage, as per [G21]

Re: Tippy Falling Robots :D

Although Caltran is right, there is an easy fix. Take a plastic or aluminum rod and make a spacer that fits right in between the two arms and bolt it all together and you'll be fine.

Assuming that it retracts, and the extra rod doesn't get in the way. I don't see any mechanism for retraction.

Already on it. The robot in the video is an early prototype the finished robot (or robots) that go in the bag will have that problem fixed.

Re: Tippy Falling Robots :D

One note I will suggest to other drivers, if someone is driving on the bridge behind you, do not quickly speed to the other side unless they are fully on, as you will pretty much always flip them over from underneath

Re: Tippy Falling Robots :D

I've seen a lot of robots that are fairly tippy on the bridge... especially if they start to fall off while trying to balance with a second robot!

We tried it with our robot last night... We tipped it back probably 75 degrees, and it still flopped down on its wheels!
