The following items are excluded from the total cost calculation:
A. items listed on any KOP Checklist (qty is limited to the total listed in the most recent checklist),
B. items obtained via a Product Donation Voucher included in the KOP,
C. items ever distributed to the team via FIRST Choice,
D. any non-functional decorations,
E. individual fasteners, adhesives, or lubricants that are less than $1.00 each,
F. spare parts, and
G. parts of the Operator Console.
I am confused about the part I underlined. Specifically, I am trying to account for some Igus parts, and I can't even find a list of what was included other than "Igus Bag" with "various" parts, and this is not very helpful. I think, but am not sure, that we used more bearings than were in the KOP this year, but 1. I can't find a list so I don't know; 2. If they do include different year's KOP parts, how do I account for them (2 entries, one with the recent KOP quantity and the rest at some Price?); 3. Some of the parts on Igus, such as the rods, do not have a price on the website and you have to ask for a quote. Does it have to be this difficult?

Also, with different models of FP motors, if the one model was in one years KOP, and a different model was in a different KOP, do I account for the price of both, one, or neither?

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Alex,
I read it as any KOP item is excluded from cost calculations. If you used Igus parts that were not part of a KOP then those need to be priced and added to the calculation. If you do not have a KOP checklist for a particular year, let me know, I might have it in my archive or you might find it on the FIRST archive or another website that has been archiving things for FRC.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Forgive me if this has already come up, but are we required to use the FIRST-provided format, or can we make our own spreadsheet from scratch provided it has all the same information, in a slightly different layout?

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

Sandy,
Teams are encouraged to use the BOM Template posted on the FIRST website. Please
note that while BOMs must be shown to Inspectors, FRC teams are not required to
submit their BOMs to the Inspectors.

You may use your own design but it may add time to your inspection process as the inspector looks over a spreadsheet unknown to them.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

I just finished my teams BOM and found the total cost to be rather high (compared to last year). It is pretty darn close to the limit. Is anybody else finding this out?

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

My Team got a bit behind and we are just now doing our BOM(by the way yes our bot is already bagged and tagged so this is going to be quite a task). Last year FRC provided a template that included a listing of all the KOP items on one shee and another for non-KOP items. Is there a format like that for this year?, or is there only a base template and I'll have to include the KOP items we used by hand.
Thanks.

Due I think to the shear number of "KOP" items this year (larger FIRST choice, more vouchers like ARA), the GDC has returned to the older base template. You'll just list all components and write the source as "KOP" and cost as $0 for all items counted in the Kit. The template is here (direct download) on the competition manual page. Good luck! I wrapped up at almost row 300 if I recall correctly. Remember the rules about what's in the KOP and the other exemptions from the total cost calculation.

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

As far as my brand new copy goes, the zip file on the USFIRST website does not contain any .xls files at all.
C:\Documents and Settings\Stereo Optical\My Documents\2012 game\2012_Inspection_BOM_Template_Rev_A.
Myabe there is some sense to the folders with xml files, but they don't seem to work together on my EXCEL 2010 nor open office.

I wonder what they were thinking ?

Was it the same user experience experts who posted vital contest info for High School users on YouTube ?

The posted file is a .xlsx file not a .zip file (though the new office formats ending in 'x' are technically zip files).

Where is the .zip file?

I just used the .xlsx file found in the link in the 5. Tournament section, near the bottom of this page.

Although I don't quite understand why it's in .xlsx, and I saved it as a .xls file so we could work with it more easily (we're a bit behind in our spreadsheet software).

Re: 2012 Bill of Materials

I find the official BOM template to be somewhat annoying to work with for two reasons: 1) The small, blank columns require me to hit a few extra arrow keys each time I enter a part, and they prevent me from effectively using shortcuts like shift-right, which adds up when I'm entering a hundred parts; 2) I always have to add more rows to some of the subsystems and then repair the formatting and subtotals afterwards.

So I used a very simple BOM format instead (blank example attached). It was faster and easier. I added a grand total at the bottom when I was finished.
