Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
...wow. Sounds like this year is going to be the best year of KC yet. A full practice field, a new college row, and some interesting teams. This should be a week one event never to be forgotten.

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
Thursday is in the books.
We've got several catapults, a couple of pneumatic punches, and a dumper in the field. There is even a bot or two who are focusing on defense without any ball manipuation at all. The majority of robots have a shooting wheel of some sort. Accuracy for most robots was well under 50%, but a few showed great precision. I'm sure this will improve through the weekend. Key shots were a lot more popular than fender shots inspite of the lack of defense. At least 3 robots controlled the coopertition bridge balls during autonomous. Several others are close to obtaining this feature. 4 or 5 double robot balances on the day. One robot fell over on it's face as the bridge over centered in an additional attempt. No outside the box strategies in this department to report. Several instances where balls lodged under the coopertition bridge from both sides. I'm having trouble thinking of a technique to dislodge the balls in this scenario with only a 14" appendage. At times there were so many balls on the coopertition bridge that the act of dumping them assured a few went under the bridge. Should be less of a problem as we move to full 3 on 3 matches. Match schedule is up here: http://www2.usfirst.org/2012comp/eve...eduleQual.html PS. Our drive team played all of their practice matches without vision assistance. Turns out the camera mounting system presses on the reset button. Inspite of that their accuracy today was impressive. We'll give them back that vision crutch for tomorrow. ![]() Good luck to everyone. If you're a nut or bolt short of a cool idea working, stop by our pit. |

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
I watched some practice matches, the two stand-out teams for me so far were 1986 (who had a game where they scored 11 in the top basket in a row) and 525. If I'm not mistaken they double balanced once.
Fender shots seem better than key shots, especially with the lack of defense. A robot that can shoot both may encourage defence which in turn may encourage penalty points, so I can see the fender shot being a key attribute in qualis. I still can't believe that game really early on where a team gave away ~30 penalty points... |

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
MMR2410/BVCAPS Robotics had an interesting day. Couple of minor failures here and there, but we're back in the game today. If our little secret goes as planned, then we should be an interesting force to be contended with. Stop by our pit in the pink division (Is that what they're called?) and check us out, and donate some cans to help BuildKC with Harvesters. Also, check us out in the stands for some intense cheering and join in with us! We'd be honored to have you with us.

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
I want to give props right now to the GKC event staff. This regional is really flying through the matches. There is no real downtime. It seems like as soon as the score goes up and comes off the board, the field is nearly ready. That's great for a week 1. Keep it up, you're awesome!

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
GKC seems to be the only stream that consistently works, and has pretty good quality too.
The quality of the average seems to be pretty high too, and it's nice to see people actually start using strategy (like the one team who played D by just sitting in front of the fender). Last edited by George Nishimura : 02-03-2012 at 17:33. |

Re: 2012 Greater Kansas City Regional
If everything on TBA is correct, Qualifications 48: 1827 2335 3764 | 2949 1986 1987 | 0 72 is the week one high score so far. Competition here is indeed one heck of a game.
