Next year's challenge is that metal isn't allowed on the robots, except under very strict exceptions. |

I second the no to this one, I still have nightmares*.
*Apparently when you double the number of mechanisms, the number of mechanical failures is squared, not doubled. |

The exceptions I'm thinking of are: wiring and electronics, fasteners, and internal to actuation devices (which include motors and pneumatic cylinders). Now you get the fun of finding alternative materials for everything. That includes gears as well as frame. |

I loved Breakaway, and we rocked FLR in 2010... But I'd hate to see a repeat.

Re: Possible 2013 Game Idea
Even crazier than no metal would be no electronic combonents! No game, just see who can make the robot that runs the longest

Re: Possible 2013 Game Idea
The serious problem with a water game is that nobody can afford to change their cRIO whenever a watertight seal breaks. Underwater batteries aren't the greatest idea either.
P.S. -- And NO, the game does not even have to be entirely submerged in water. |

Re: Possible 2013 Game Idea
Who says the cRIO or battery have to be anywhere near the water? There was no power source or control system on the 1992 FRC robots as they slogged their way through a game field covered in kernels of corn. The same type of setup could work very well for ro-boats navigating the surface of a shallow pool.

Bring back the Regolith floor, no wheels, and make hard plastic skates.
