2012 Utah Regional Observations and Commentary

Hey all,

LiveWire 3456 just finished attending the Utah Regional, and I must say, it was an awesome time! In all honesty, it was one of the best regionals I have ever attended, and I don't say that lightly. The judges, referees, inspectors, staff, and volunteers were all so nice and helpful, and the Maverick Center was a perfect venue. Easy access to the stands and pits, plenty large enough for everything, convenient location, and just a really nice facility in general.

I was impressed by the level of competition as well. When 2403, 3230, and 3245 took out the number 1 seeded alliance of 399, 2122, and 3006 in the quarter finals, that match was literally the best I've ever watched in person. Actually, the entire elimination round was the overall best I can remember. Close matches, huge upsets, and excitement abound everywhere.

A few thank you's here: Mr. Richard Anderson, thank you so much for everything you and the Regional Planning Committee have done for the Utah Regional. The growth and expansion I've seen in just two years is astounding.

Also, thanks to the venue for allowing us to drive our truck inside to act as a mobile machine shop. We were glad to be able to assist teams with building all kinds of pieces and parts.

And thanks to all the teams, every one, for being so gracious and professional all weekend. Everyone I interacted with was kind, excited, and great to talk to.

A shout out to our two rookie teams: BottWire 4178 and Top of the Mountain 4175. You guys did great, and we thank you for just sticking with it to realize how great FIRST truly is.

And to every team we competed with that qualified for St. Louis, lets stay in touch! LiveWire is super excited to earn the Chairmans award as a second year team, and qualify once again for the Championships! Now that an awesome regional has been concluded, see you all in St. Louis!
