Go to Post To anyone who is discouraged about their team, don't let yourself get down. I've seen my team go from having a robot that barely moved (and I'm not kidding, we had keys falling out of gearboxes) to this year with a robot that is ACTUALLY GOING TO WORK. One Robot Sitting on top of another question

At the kick off it was said that if one team was "sitting" on top of another while located on the very top of the ramp they would be awarde an extra 25 points. This is added to the 50 points that they got for already being ontop of the ramp. For an over all total of 75 points. Does anyone else remember this, because i was not to find any information on it within the robot & game rules

The way that I understood what they said there was that you could carry another robot onto the ramp...i.e. a robot did not have to personally be in contact with the ramp to get the 25 point bonus...I don't see anything in the rules talking about an extra 25 pts if you are carrying another machine up...

the robot on top takes on the persona of the bottom robot-

ex: blue team lifts a read team on top of them while on top the the ramp

the blue teams get 50 points for two robots and the red team gets none

umm... are you sure about that?

the way i understood it, the red alliance got points for red bots, the blue for blue bots. if one's on top of another, then the top one take on the characteristics of the bottom one *for deciding whether or not it is in scoring position* only. if the bottom one is, then the top is. if any of the bottom bot is outside, then the top is considered to be outside, too.

What I thought was that the top robot takes characteristics of the bottom, but the bottom robot does not get the points if the top robot is on the other team.

Bot topping

I'm confused as to the ruling too.

Does the whole robot have to be on top to take on the characteristics of the bottom to get the points, does the top bot get 0 points if somepart of it is touching the non-ramp part while being on top of another robot.

yes. if a blue bot is on the bottom, and a red bot climbs on top, then each robot is worth 25 points. the blue robot gets credit for one bot as king of the hill and so does the red bot. however, if a blue robot were to turn up ontop of a blue robot, there would be two blue robots on the HDPE, meaning 50 points for blue. i believe the phrase "takes on the characteristics of" means "is touching the HDPE if the bottom bot is touching the HDPE" i think the characteristics are physical characteristics, NOT scoring characteristics. Blue does not get points for red robots on top of it. each alliance gets points for its robots on the HDPE.

the robot that would end up on top would be the dominant robot.. or is it the other way around?
by being ontop... does this mean completely on a robot, and the top one is not touching anything else, or the top robot is just parked over the other robot by having a bigger frame?

I'm pretty sure "on top" means supported only by the bottom robot.

Here is what was said at the conference:

"One of the other questions that might come up is: 'What happens if I pick my alliance partner's robot up and carry my partner up and we both are sitting on top of the ramp?'"
A: "Basically what could happen is the robots have to be stacked one on top of the other. Both robots take on the attributes of the machine on the bottom. So if you climb on top of one of the other robots, of your alliance, or the other side, if that robot is legally on top of the hill, and it gets the bonus points, so do you. However if he is off, on the ramp, and doesn't get the king-of-the-hill points, neither do you."

I think that clears things up.

I thought I heard that there was a 2* multiplier for stacked robots. I don't know if this was for just the robots or for the total score.

I didn't see this in the rules, however.

If that is true it means if 2 robots form the same alliance are stacked it means at least 100 points for that alliance. Not sure if two robots from opposing alliances leads to a multiplier or if top/bottom would matter.

I see it as the complete opposite- if the top robot was the dominant one you could drive on top of someone by mistake and they'd never go on the ramp-

but if you purposely put someone atop of your robot, they'd be defenseless and you'd get the extra points

Check out the Forum...It appears that no points are awarded to a stacked robot. The robot MUST be touching only the HDPE platform.

Clanat has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Sounds like a change in the initial ruling, maybe it's just someone being vague.
