Bots for Cancer

Hello everyone,

I wanted to tell you all about an event Team 3992 decided to start, called Bots for Cancer

Our very first FRC Regional will be the South Florida Regional, March 29 - 31.

On the 31st, after the regional, our team will be attending a Relay For Life (an event created by the American Cancer Society and hosted across the country). This event is about raising money for cancer research.

We are trying to raise money for this, but at the same time, have a big goal in mind: at the event, talk to others about how cancer research, among everything else, is due to the hard work of scientists, engineers, researchers, etc.

The event is hosted at our school, and FIRST became part of a club we started last year. So, part of our reason for doing so is to inspire other students (many of the attendees are students) to join the FRC team next year.

We're hoping to also show of our robot by bringing it after the regional, and talk to people about the entire season process and our FIRST experience, to hopefully get them passionate about FIRST.

I just wanted to tell you all about this in the hopes that maybe you are interested in doing a similar event in your area - Relay for Life is across the country, I'm sure there's one near you!

Lastly, if any of you would like to donate toward our teams fundraising goal, please feel free via this link! Any donation goes toward finding the cure.

NOTE: Link may take a while to load.

Re: Bots for Cancer

This is a great idea and we're already discussing supporting events like this on our team.

Personal opinion, not meant as a criticism: Name is misleading "Bots for Cancer" implies what you are in favor of supporting.
Suggestions: "Robot Relay for Life", "Bots for Cures", "Bots for Health"

As I tell my son, "Say what you want, not what you don't want."

Good Luck on your fund raiser.

Re: Bots for Cancer

Haha ok, we'll definitely re-word it. I like "Bots for the cure".

Thanks, and good luck with your initiatives as well!

Re: Bots for Cancer

Our team recently did a bowl-a-thon for the American Cancer Society and I believe we raised over $2,000. Our team is also participating in Relay for Life. Good luck at your Relay for Life event and also at your first Regional!
