Rules for Rookie All Star 2012

Heyyy everyone,

So being a rookie we received the rookie All star at our Detroit District competition. We thought that it was an automatic in for states and now we find out that it is not. Also, there are no points for it. Does anyone know what is going on with this years rules??

There are different rules for Michigan District events. You need to review those rules.

Website Award at the State Championship
Only the District Winners of Chairman’s Award, Engineering Inspiration Award, Rookie
All-Star Award and Website Award will be eligible to compete for the award at the State
Championship.

Rookie All-Star Award and Engineering Inspiration Award at the State
Championship
All teams competing for the Rookie All-Star Award and the Engineering Inspiration
Award at the FiM State Championship will need to conduct a scheduled formal interview
with the Judges at the event. A signup sheet will be available at Pit Administration.There will be one (1) FiM State Championship Rookie All-Star Award winner and one
(1) Engineering Inspiration Award winner that will be eligible to attend the FIRST
Championship.

Your team still gets to attend the MSC to present for Rookie All Star. There is a chance your robot could qualify for States via points. Currently you are ranked 45 in the state with 43 points.

In MAR (which works the same way as FiM), District Rookie All Star earns the team a slot to present--not compete with their robot--at the Region/State Championship. There, you have a 1 in n (n=5 in MAR, n=9 in FiM) to qualify for Worlds. The rationale is that, while you don't get points or automatically get to compete with your robot at the Region/State Championship, you do have a 1 in n chance to qualify for Worlds, where n<BasicallyEveryoneElse's (except EI). So then lets say we do not qualify for states via points, but we got the rookie all star. How do we compete for the all star at state anyways? I guess what im not understanding is how does all of this work.

You go to States and present at a formal judges' interview (you'll do this even if you compete with your robot there). If you win--you're competing against the Rookie All Stars from the 8 other Michigan Districts Events--you get a slot to compete with your robot at Worlds.

Sort of odd, admittedly, but you've definitely raised your chances of making Worlds! Does that makes sense?
