Re: The Mobius, WFA and WFFA site

Not to be a stickler but(as an alumnus of Michigan Technological University) shouldn't the school be Michigan Technological University and not Michigan Technical University for Ken and Kyle, unless I am mistaken and there is a Michigan Technical University?

Other than that this site is very cool, hope to see my name on it someday.

No problem, but you only fixed Kyle's profile it still says Technical in Ken's.

Thanks for all the hard work you and the other WFA's have put in to this!

I'd love to see the reasoning and story of the design behind the trophy, itself. Or, did I overlook it?

All I know is that they aren't cheap. The year I won, my kids had mine on display in the pit at Lone Star, when it fell and slightly broke. It's fixed now and you can't see the crack at the back of the base unless you're handling it, so I don't need your sympathy, honest. Anyways, I'm not always above taking advantage of having a mother that's an RD, so I asked her if she could check with FRC HQ for the cost of replacing the mobius part. It's not four figures, but it's a significant multiple of three. So I've decided that I'd rather keep my money and the story, heh.

What a great idea. I am so glad for this - we need to celebrate these winners as much as possible. Thank you for putting this together.

There is some description of it in a "25 Years of DEKA" publication (that currently exists at Dean's house / DEKA / is given to invited guests of Dean's), as one of the DEKA 'christmas gifts' (a geeky-cool present secretly designed and built by DEKA engineers each year for Dean) was a mobius similar to the WFA trophy and is featured in the book. I will try and see if I can get a copy that snippet and send it to Andy so that it can go up on the site.

Re: The Mobius, WFA and WFFA site

I created a quick code that sorts through the data (allowing me to finally get WF stats!)

With this data (not taking into account for team switches), the most WFFA(+WFA) winners any team has is 3.

The teams with 3 WFFA winners are as follows:

103
116
155
341
357
469
612
987
1114
1538
1574
1675

This does not include teams with a WFA (which does not beat the 3 mentor record).

If you include the WFA, these teams are added to the list:
111
131
188
234
365
812

Isn't data fun? If anyone wants any more numbers, let me know.

Ha, I just did the same analysis, to find out it was already done. I didn't use a code data sorter, just a microsoft excel pivot table.

Awesome site, I'll be sure to take the time to meet Dr. Murphy and thank him for his many contributions to society.

You can now add 604 to the list! Jim Mori won at Silicon Valley tonight, in addition with Helen Arrington (Sacramento 2010), and Maggie Best (Sacramento 2011). Threepeat!

I will try and post some pictures on our website later taken after Andy Baker presented it to Jim Mori. Edit: Photos are posted here.

Met-L-Flo out of Rockford, IL makes them. Also, I added a "trophy design" page.

Dina Campagna moved from team 341 to team 357 a couple of years ago, but I never updated the list so she is with the three guys on 357. She brings the WFFA total on team 357 to 4 winners. They are now alone in the lead.

I updated the list tonight (excel file and html list), and I captured about 10-12 WFFA mentors who have changed teams. From Scott Ritchie and his new team (3947) to Dave Scarcella moving to team 231, there are various changes.

Yep, got it. A "notes" column is added. If anything needs to be added there, please let me know. This is also a good place to list that a few of these wonderful mentors have sadly passed away.

Sincerely,

Well, if you want to be technical about it, (since you love playing with data) the last list should be on the list with 3 WFFA, since all the WFAs had to win a WFFA first.

Although I can see the rationale about leaving them off the WFFA list since it is long already.
