Re: NX?

NX is another parametric modeler, like Inventor or Solidworks. Becasuse it is a different program it operates differently, not neccisarily easier or harder. The more systems you know the easier it is to pick up additional systems. In my opinion the hardest system to pick up is your second one, because of the paradigm shift it typically requires.

Whether NX is better or worse is dependant on your specific situation. I do not know of any donation program for teams like Inventor, Solidworks, and Pro-E (I cannot remember the new name) have, so it is generally more expensive for a team to procure. It does solid modeling, assemblies and drawings in a fairly standard manner that is suitable for FRC. It is broken down into a series of licenses, so just because you have the modeling license doesn't mean that you will get the FEA of NC modules. Because of this I would be inclined to use it only if a sponsoring organization was providing them for me and all I had to do was sit down.

I use NX at work on a daily basis and I will say that I am very disappointed with the NX7 updates as compared to NX5.

Same. Delphi and GM have already moved on but we're holding on to using NX5 for as long as humanly possible. It doesn't help matters any that we have at least 3 fires going on right now and bringing an Assembly into NX7 from NX5 (even if fully and correctly constrained) BREAKS EVERYTHING! Any constraint it doesn't recognize will do one of two things; 1) remove the constraint entirely or 2) just make it completely fixed.

Both of which take hours to fix on a large compressor assembly.
