solenoids

I am working on a 2 speed transmission and was wondering if anyone knew if solenoids are allowd by FIRST. I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be but then again it isn't provided by FIRST. If anyone has an answer for me that would be great.

Thinking of the electromagnetic item, rather than the pneumatic relay, which almost everyone related to FIRST considers a solenoid...

Pneumatic cylinders are allowed, within the guidelines of the rules, and as for the strict definition of a solenoid, they would do practically the exact same thing.

I'm fairly certain you're not allowed to divert electricity through anything besides standard electrical components, save the custom circuit board.

not allowed

Electromagnetic solenoids are banned on the part use flow chart. However you could use a pneumatic cylinder attached to a solenoid in the kit to shift.
