3/8 Hex Hub?

Hello all,
We are looking to convert our shooter to hex, but it seems AndyMark only has 1/2 hex hubs. And I believe the 1/2 inch is a over kill for our application, so does anyone have an solution to drive an AM Plaction wheel with an 3/8 hex?

I am thinking it may be best to get an 1/4 hub and then drill/broach it out for 3/8 hex but we don't have any broach tools.... yet

i had this same issue awhile ago... the is almost nothing commercially available with a 3/8" hex broached in it. if you aren't short on weight go with the 1/2", but if you are short on weight you could always go with a hollow 1/2" shaft.

We modified AM-0134 (3/8" keyed hub) by running a 3/8" hex broach through it using an arbor press. The broach is similar to McMaster p/n 2875A19 (~$145/ea) but you can probably find one cheaper.

I am wondering if we could get a hub 3d printed on an Dimension Printer...
For a shooter wheel I would think it is strong enough.

It should be fine if you don't expect very high acceleration on your shooter, like sudden stops from full speed or sudden jumps to speed. Software/electrical things you could do is filter the speed output and set the motor controller to coast.

If your printer is like ours and gives you options in print density, make sure you choose the highest density possible.

You could press a 3/8" standard socket into a .500 keyed hub (bore or turn one or the other to fit). Aside from the fit, weight, reliability, alignment and complexity problems relative to just going with a .500 hex........

If you have a CAD model, I can 3D print you a hub, or if you want to send me a hub with a smaller bore, I could broach it 7/16" hex and send it back to you.
