Re: Kinect with Labview

It is super easy to set up the Kinect in LabVIEW. In Begin.vi open up two joysticks with the inputs being "Kinect 1" and "Kinect 2". The Kinect is already set up to act as a joystick.

Scroll down to the Kinect sections of this document http://www.usfirst.org/sites/default/files/uploadedFiles/Robotics_Programs/FRC/Game_and_Season__Info/2012_Assets/Getting%20Started%20with%20the%202012%20FRC%20Cont rol%20System_2.pdf to find out how to set up the Kinect and find out what gestures correspond to which buttons.

Re: Kinect with Labview

No, but it may be that you haven't installed the same SW as what was installed on the small laptop.

In other words, run through the Kinect checklist, see if the MS examples work, etc.

Re: Kinect with Labview

If the examples work and the SW is versioned beta 2, then the Kinect Server should work. If needed, it can be launched in a debug mode that will leave its window open and give more info if there is an issue. If the server is working, then everything else is just shoving the info around and displaying it.

If you have more information about where it fails, please provide it.

Re: Kinect with Labview

So, you're getting an error message about the Kinect Server?
There is a button on the Operations Tab that will restart it.

In addition to knowing what the error message says, there are a couple of places to look for Kinect status that would be helpful to know:
  • On the Operation tab is a Kinect box outlined in (red or green) and the silhouettes for two people (gray or green)
  • On the Driver Station Diagnostics tab, the Kinect is listed next to a light (gray, red or green). To the right is a button that will restart the Kinect Server.
  • There is also a Kinect status at the very bottom that should have some text message beside it.
Depending on what errors and statuses you see there are various things to try to clear up the problem.

If the Kinect Server is failing, then you can run it in debug mode and get more information.
It's located on your PC under C://Program Files/FRC Kinect Server/KinectServer Debug Mode
