Re: Where else can you shoot from

It has been a feat for teams to try and make baskets from on top of the bridge, half-court line, or full-court.

Re: Where else can you shoot from

You can attempt a shot from anywhere on the field. Accuracy changes with distance, so unless you've developed a great targeting software along with the ability to change shooting power based on BSF (Ball Squishiness Factor), you won't be accurately scoring from too far away. However, luck is always a factor in these competitions. I've seen a few shots made from the opponent's fender while playing D....by a moving robot.

Re: Where else can you shoot from

2486 can shoot from anywhere on the key, or from either side of the fender, though our accuracy from the key is about 50%, while our accuracy from the fender is about 90%.

Re: Where else can you shoot from

Not us personally, but I've seen shots from the following places:

From the key
From the front of the fender
From the side of the fender
From the alliance bridge (233)
From the across the barrier (Team Inconceivable (number escapes me))
From the feeder station across the field (Practice video only, Cardinalbotics (number escapes me))

FIRST Team 2530 is Inconceivable-- and we made two shots (3pt + 1pt) simultaneously from across the barrier, which you can see in either of these videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2KIVicKIOk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2D3Fc_1qdc

We had good intentions of regularly shooting from just past the barrier (had pretty good percentage in non-competition trials) but in actual competition, I think we only actually attempted once, so our accuracy is 200% from from half court.

Team 842's statistics:

66% accuracy overall from the key(Could even improve that to ~80).
95% accuracy overall from either side of the fender.
95% accuracy overall from the front corners of the fender.

Re: Where else can you shoot from

As stated before, you can shoot from anywhere, but some spots are tougher than others. It was really interesting to see where people decided to shoot from at competition vs our primary strategy brainstorming. I originally advocated for having a set shot from the key for the 3 pointer as it was immune to defense and very effective in scoring if accurate, but in the end we opted for the fender. This worked out rather nicely, as we encountered much less defense under the key than we first thought, and were able to score relatively well.

There were a lot of other interesting shooting spots as well, including dumping from the side of the fender (a spot used repeatedly in SD and LA by team 702, the Bagel Bytes), as well as barely touching the key from the front or the sides, so that you are still within the penalty zone yet you have an easier shot.

3574 made more than one 3-point shot from over the barrier at the Spokane Regional. We designed to be able to shoot from anywhere.

We'll count ourselves lucky to get the 2 point shot from the fender.

......Is this a joke? Last time I checked, 192 was kicking butt at Chesepeake, and doing equally as well at SVR.

I wish it were. I'm not sure if we scored a single basket during teleop at SVR, and we were probably shooting less than 50% for the 2 point at the fender at Chesapeake. Our temperamental hybrid mode, the bridge points, and a little bit of defense have gone a long way.

But we're having serious issues now. We've been on the edge of having a tracking system, complete with adjustable hood angle and flywheel speed, but we just can't seem to finish it. It's so close, but "almost" doesn't count. For now, we don't even have a camera or camera feed. Depending on the next week, you'll see one of two things from our robot: 1) It may be making shots from all over the key or 2) It won't be able to make a single shot from anywhere but the fender and we'll just play defense if someone else on the alliance can shoot. We'll see what happens come next Thursday.

Re: Where else can you shoot from

I know we made a half court shot into the top hoop on the practice field. However it was totally random and uncounted for and we weren't able to replicate it in our next two tries.
