New Layout Feedback

Hey CD. I have been working on remaking my teams website from the ground up. I have been spending most of the time recently on the layout design. I attached a screenshot of the current state (not quite done, but I think the general concept is there). If you wouldn't mind giving me your feedback on it, I would appreciate it.

I can't say much about the layout itself, but I think the background makes everything (except the eye of the tiger gear logo) difficult to see. I would do the page background in solid dark green, and that sidebar in the lighter green. The diagonal stripes confuse the eye and draw it away from the logos and buttons and towards the empty space, which isn't what you want. I do like the tiger logo's placement better in your new layout as opposed to the old layout, though.

Agreeing with Aviana on this one. The new placement of the logos looks great but when I opened your picture the lines started to move on me like an optical illusion. I'm not sure what it will look like with stuff in front of it though. Maybe try putting some info in front of it and reposting a picture? Or were you planning to leave it open?

You might considering making the text on the gear have a little more contrast - it's hard to see

You want people focused on the content of your website first and foremost; aesthetics are important, but they're still second. If you made the pattern less distinctive and more subtle, it could work - just remember that it's your background, not your foreground.

Yeah, basically. Some options would be to tone down the contrast between the two colors, lighten the saturation up or something, or just go with a solid color... I don't quite understand how the content is going to work in this layout, either, but I guess you'll have to give us an update for that.

Alright Guys. Thanks for all the feedback. However due to a problem when backing up my hdd the old site was totally overwritten....

So I have redone it, it is nearly identical, but it is a more complete layout. I also went with a solid green background that I think works quite well.

So what do you think?

Side note: check the HTML validation badges on the side.

The black text is still a little hard to read, I would use a lighter one. You could also give it a slight tint of orange to help it match your team colors and logo. It is alot better without the stripes though.

Good job taking our feed back and putting it into use! The new layout looks much better without the striped lines in the background.

The dark text is a little hard to read against the dark green background, maybe try using something lighter like white.

I also second the idea for you to incorporate orange into your website, however I wouldn't recommend it for text.

Thanks Guys. I agree, I like the new Background more as well.

Green and Gray/Silver are the team colors actually. I wanted the Tiger in our Logo to be green as well, but that didn't happen. I also have no idea where I would get the orange to fit in...

The Black text will not be staying black, it just isn't something I have gotten to yet. The point of the text in it was to make sure the sections displayed properly. The plan is for it to be a similar color to the Navigation bar and Head, maybe a bit darker.

I like the new layout - the only issue I have is that the FIRST logo is stretched vertically a little bit.

FIRST hates that.

I hadn't noticed that! Turns out it was the image that was warped. However it is corrected now. THANK YOU!

You can also try applying a gradient background. Otherwise, the layout looks great!
