Windchill Access

Do teams who setup a Windchill project during the season still have access to your projects?

Our team is wanting to move away from Dropbox as our file management system for Solidworks and we were looking at testing out Windchill over the summer. However we are having issues signing up for a project. I tried to register the team for a project through the online form, since I am a mentor. I tried 3 different times and have yet to recieve an email from PTC like the submission page explains. We have also tried our main contacts information and he has not received any emails.

My gut tells me it is something to do with the off-season being in full swing and TIMs re-opening for next season, but I didn't know if other teams have lost access.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Re: Windchill Access

Yes, I still have access to our team's account. I even double checked to ensure that the server wasn't down.

It is a bit odd that yo have not heard response yet from PTC. They are usually very quick with answering emails. I think our server took a few days to be set up (Registered Thursday around noon, and late Monday it was up).

I don't think it has much to do with the TIMS thing though. I am not the team's contact person, nor was I registered in TIMS at the time I registered for our WindChill server. I would try contacting them directly; the people I have been in contact with from PTC that have specifically delt with FIRST and WindChill are Cosmin Pana (cpana@ptc.com) and Mark Fischer (mfischer@ptc.com). I'm pretty sure that Cosmin is who you want to contact, but doesn't hurt to put both on the same email.

I am not sure of PTC's release schedule. I know Autodesk gets very busy around Jan-Mar in final preparations for the next release of their products. I also don't know their summer schedule, not likely to be different than their normal schedule (I assume).

Please let me know if there is snything I can do for you.

PS - Do you know if you registered for Windchill 10 or 9? 10 is MUCH better than 9.

Re: Windchill Access

Funny how things happen... Our main contact just received an email from PTC. I guess things go a little slower in the summer, we submitted the request mid-last week.

Also, I believe it is for Windchill 10. Thanks for your help!

Re: Windchill Access

I've had our server up and running for a few weeks now. Thanks PTC!

That being said, try to use Internet Explorer. When I used Chrome, I couldn't see the whole page, or the errors in the form. I spent two weeks waiting before finding out my form had never sent!

I received our invite within 3 days. Any questions were answered within 8 hours.

EDIT: it is Windchill 10

Re: Windchill Access

I've started using WindChill/CREO for work. WindChill is designed to Explorer, so I only browse WindChill in Explorer. When CREO is installed you can use it's built-in browser to access WindChill, which I prefer.

OP: I'd just wait a little longer. It took a while for my server to get setup.

Also, CREO isn't so closely related to SolidWorks as I was lead to believe by many, including the CREO salesman. It was a serious adjustment to be productive in CREO.

I have used WindChill extensively with Creo (And formerly Pro/E) with work. Yes, the plugin is a bit more refined using this combination. However, I have used WindChill with SolidWorks and am rather pleased with how well WindChill adapts to a 'third-party' software package. I have also spent a little bit of time in Inventor with WindChill as well; same results.

I think PTC has really got this one right.

I've heard nothing but good things about SolidWorks/Windchill integration. I didn't mean to indicate otherwise.

Oops. Sorry misread your post.

I agree with you, Creo is different than SolidWorks from a designer's POV. SolidWorks is much more intuitive. However, Creo jumped leaps and bounds compared to its predecessor, Pro/Engineer.

Windchell and Firefox Was: Re: Windchill Access

I recognize that Windchill has great integration with IE but has anyone had success using Firefox? Daniel, thanks for mentioning that Chrome isn't a good choice either.

Barring Firefox, will it work with Safari? I'm not sure who on my team uses IE, if anyone.

Thank you!
