But it's right across from Disneyland! /kidding.

Is MAR really being moved up a week meaning they will fit their districts within the first five weeks?

It's highly probable; last year we had 5 districts in 5 weeks (week 2 had 2 districts, week 3 was an 'off' week, the NYC regional took place, and there was nothing week 6) and the reason we had a Week 7 was because Week 6 was Easter. Easter is Week 5 this year.

Very ambitious RD out here is also trying to start a bunch of new teams in Alberta. So far there have only been 2 teams West of Ontario for us to choose from out here.
Just received this email confirming the new western Canada event and the date:

Quote:
Western Canada FRC Regional is looking to recruit existing FRC teams to sign up for the inaugural event.

April 4 - 6th (week 6), 2013 at the Olympic Oval in Calgary Alberta

At our event we will have 15-20 Rookie teams, having experienced FRC teams would be an amazing addition to the event.
  • $1,500 grant to help cover part of the cost of travel (if needed)
  • Subsidized accommodations and or billeting available
  • Less than a 12 hour drive from Washington, Idaho or Oregon to Calgary
  • Calgary International Regional Airport is a hub for most airline carriers
  • Support a brand new FRC Regional event and provide experienced presence for new FRC teams
  • 4 world class ski resorts within a 2 hour drive
  • Tons of interesting tourist experiences including a brand new $40 million Science Centre
Invite any inquiries to be directed to…

I checked University of Pittsburgh academic calendar and see that they are on break March 10 to 17, the same week as Purdue and CSU (Buckeye).

I am not serving on the planning committee for Queen City this year, so have no data, have not asked, this is purely speculation (enough disclaimer?)

Xavier has a break 2/25 to 3/1 and Easter weekend 3/28 - 4/1. So, I'm guessing Queen City will be one of those two weeks.

Any idea when the official dates will be published?

Last year the offical dates came only a few days before registration opened at the end of September.

Re: 2013 Predicted Events Calendar

I have heard when some of those dates will be, but am sworn to secrecy. I have been told that FIRST is shooting for a release of dates by mid-sept. I know Midwest was locked, then all of sudden had to change a couple weeks ago.

Re: 2013 Predicted Events Calendar

Boston is usually mid-March, during Boston University's Spring Break since its held at their arena. I just checked the Agannis's event calendar and haven't seen anything yet, however since their spring break is March 10-17, it would make sense for the regional to be Week 3.

Speculating is fun!

Re: 2013 Predicted Events Calendar

The American Physical Society meeting is at the Baltimore convention center during week 4 and I'm hedging that the Chesapeake Regional, Virginia Regional, and DC Regional are unlikely to overlap so I'm going with week 2 for Chesapeake unless there is some double secret venue change going on.

Supposedly Chesapeake is week 7 according to a MD-First Meeting. I didn't know there was a week 7.

Re: 2013 Predicted Events Calendar

There was a week 7 last year, but wasn't it MAR and FiM championships and not regular regional events?

Edit: We had an awesome time in Chesapeake last year and want to come back but its unlikely to be workable if its week 7.
