Essay about Einstein

I have to do an essay in English. I have chosen the topic of "Einstein should be replayed because of the intentional interference". Though this isn't my exact point of view, I think it would be easier to prove. I need three topic's to be discussed, any specific topics I should touch on?

Thanks for your help

Re: Essay about Einstein

Do you have content requirements—mainly length? With that topic, you may be forced to spend much of the essay explaining things, and have little space to develop an argument. But any way you look at it, you'll have to at least briefly explain what the intentional interference was.

Equity usually makes for a good argument: explain how teams were grievously wronged, and by whom. (If you spread the blame around you can write more words about it. )

You can also assert that the results of the investigation strengthen your argument for that resolution.

Re: Essay about Einstein

I was taught that when making an argument letter, you need solid reasons on why doing something is better than any alternative. In this case, you need 3 reasons why replaying the matches would be better than not.

Tristan's suggestion of equity is a good one. Explain how the team's were extremely wronged. How Einstein is such a huge deal in FRC, and the implications of the wrongdoing to that.

If I were to be reading a letter of why I should replay Einstein (were I in that position... I wish), I would require you to do two additional things.

One, would be precedence. Obviously you won't be able to provide a past experience where Einstein was replayed due to interference, but you may be able to provide a different precedence. For example, matches are generally replayed due to fault of the field. You might be able to argue that the interference occurred through a fault in the field (though that may be a stretch), and thus, citing the FRC Manual, which I believe states matched will be replayed if the field is faulted for an issue that effects the outcome of the match, be able to provide a reason for replaying: Every other match where a field fault has occurred has been replayed, so why not these ones?

Two, I would say you'd need to provide a viable suggestion of circumstance. We can't just ask 12 teams from across the country and Canada to fly to New Hampshire for a few hours so we can determine who really would've one. So if I were to accept your argument, I would think you'd have to make a suggestion as to how we would replay these matches. Where, when, how, things like that.

Another thing I was taught is that you must address any negatives. To simply ignore the reasons to not replay Einstein would be... well... ignorant. You need to discuss the negatives in a "Now one might say ... is a good reason not to replay Einstein, but here's why ... isn't enough of a reason not to replay Einstein compared to the reasons to replay it" format. Discuss the negatives, then explain why they're just not enough to invalidate your argument. If you can do this effectively, you strengthen your argument a lot.

Just some suggestions. Take them as you will.

Good luck with your paper!

Re: Essay about Einstein

First of all I just want to note that I do not think Einstein should be replayed, however I can see why some people might feel that way.

Anyways, some topics you could go for might include the following:

-Teams were unfairly hurt and had less of a chance to win then others
-this years Einstein matches lacked the skill we are usually used to (not that the teams were bad, but the matches lacked excitement and extremely high scores)
-the winning alliance was not affected by any outside forces (I am not saying they didnt deserve to win)
-lots of robots had communication issues for numerous reasons
-if done without any comm issues, it would make for a very exciting final four

I personally do not agree with all of these opinions and I believe the results should stand, but this is what I think the ideas behind replaying it are.

Hope this helps!

Re: Essay about Einstein

A couple other points I would have to be really convinced on to replay Einstein are the ethicality of stripping the title of World Champions from Teams 16, 25, and 180, and if replaying the matches would really settle anything, or just cause more drama and controversy.
