Systems schema visual

Hello all,

We are in our 4th year, and I'm determined to put together some good programming training material for the programming students on the team, so I have this question: Does anyone out there have a good visual representation of the FRC systems? I'm trying to explain at a high level how the systems work together (LabView, WindRiver, C++, cRio, etc) and at the same time put together a clear document on how to install (and update) the needed software components.

Thanks!

Like this?

Depending on which language you're using, the WPI Library Users Guide and WPIlib Cookbook have some nice diagrams on how the electronics interface with each other.

The FRC Control System guide has instructions for installing all of the necessary software (for all 3 languages) and has a few actual pictures of how the different electrical components are wired together.

Re: Systems schema visual

There is a known issue with this diagram. The power connection to the wireless AP/Bridge should come not from the 12V source on the PDB but through the 12V->5V DC-DC converter. The input to the converter connects to the PDB as shown (in the dedicated 12V radio connector) and the output goes to the AP.

This assumes that you are using the standard KOP radio with a 5V input.

Re: Systems schema visual

Well, *my* rookie year is 2012, we're actually a 2 year old team

But thanks, I'm Captain this year and half of the technical people from last year graduated (we had perhaps 10 people last year) so the hours of research I've been doing for documentation and training materials should come in handy with the new recruits.

@fever that's correct, but I didn't actually make the diagram. The Control System documentation should point that out, though.

Re: Systems schema visual

Yep, I knew there was an issue with the diagram and appreciate the follow up.

Let me ask another question RE Windriver - there are sooooo many settings in this that I have no idea what's right and wrong. Is there a "Settings 101" that can take me through these? Things like options, references, build specs, and on and on.

Here's a more simplistic diagram that shows the power switch -- https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27736599/Untitled.png
