Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule

Update: Bridgewater is now at capacity. We have 97 teams registered, 79 of which have picked 2 events, and the remaining 18 need to add their second event. 9 teams from 2012 still missing. 58 NJ, 37 PA, 2 DE. As of 10AM: BR 36/36 HH 36/36 LEN 22/36 MO 24/36 SCH 27/32 TCNJ 31/36 I took a quick look at the location of teams that haven't registered for their 2nd event, and simulated the registration numbers based on the event closest to them. There were a handful of teams equidistant from the SCH/LEN/TCNJ area, so it's tough to call those. Guesses (with 97 teams): BR 36/36 HH 36/36 LEN 27/36 MO 30/36 SCH 30/32 TCNJ 35/36 Could be a bit better distributed, but hopefully there are more teams on the way to help bring everyone up to capacity. I wasn't entirely sure why the 6th event was added, NJ has actually been very slowly losing teams over the last few years, and hasn't shown significant growth since the 2007 > 2008 season (added 6 teams - 10% growth). PA took a big jump from 2011 > 2012, but I didn't look if that growth was primarily in our region or not. Either way, match turnaround this year is going to be even faster this year as we go from ~40 team events to 32-36 team events. |

Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule
I'm almost sure that the actual capacities for each of these events is 40 teams. Events usually hold a few slots in reserve for late registering rookie teams. It's more pertinent of an issue in the regional format than it is in the district system, but I guess it has held over.
Another district does allow for more teams to attend 3 districts if they so chose. That basically didn't happen in MAR last year, but there are more than a handful of 3 district teams in Michigan. |

Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule
There was talk at the MAR meetings about reducing the size of the events slightly, as some were cramped for space in the pits, etc. So I don't know if the 36 number is the new hard limit, or if that's a soft cap like most regionals.
I think only 1 team chose to do a 3rd event last year, but there weren't many slots anyway. Keep in mind MAR is charging $1000 for the 3rd event, where Michigan only charges $500. It doesn't really look that appealing to me. Seeing as about half (or more) of our region can qualify for the MAR championship, you're already 25% of the way to paying the registration cost if you skip the inconsequential 3rd event. Or to look at it another way, you could register for Brunswick Eruption, Ramp Riot, Duel on the Delaware, Monty Madness, and BR2 and still have some spending money left over. Sitting at 97 teams right now, we have 18 open slots, or space for an additional 9 teams. I don't know when rookies pop up on average, but 9 more at this point in registration seems ambitious. Is anyone planning on attending a 3rd event? We're still planning on registering for an out of state event, so our schedule will be full as it is. |

Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule
Hatboro looks like it will be a great event for a week 1 (more like the old NJ regional I suppose). 2016 will have a presence just without the robot...
![]() We couldnt afford to run wk. 1 2 and 3 continuous like last year and with TCNJ being in our backyard in wk 3 and NYC being wk 2 we had to leave off Hatboro. but looking forward to going to watch at least. |

Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule

We added 5 teams in the last 4 days, bringing us up to 102 teams registered. There may be hope to hit 106 to fill all of the events after all. We're up to 9 rookie teams, and 1 returning team. That offsets the 7 teams yet to register who participated in 2012. Fodder for the EWCP gender cast - looks like we'll have another 2 all girls teams: "4637 - Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls - Bambie Robotics" "4575 - Girl Scouts Of Eastern Pennsylvania - The Tin Mints" and 1 all boys team: "4653 - Don Bosco Prep - Ironmen Robotics" 14 teams out of the 102 still have to add their 2nd event. Looking at the location of those teams, Springside Chestnut Hill (2 spots left), and TCNJ (1 spot left) are a solid bet to fill. Lenape and Mount Olive will soon be the only events with open space left (~4 slots each after all teams add their 2nd). |

Bridgewater, Hatboro-Horsham, and Springside Chestnut Hill are now full. TCNJ - 35/36 Lenape - 29/36 Mount Olive - 31/36 We have 103 teams registered, 7 of which still have to add their second district event. That leaves 6 open slots for 3rd event registration (or 3 more rookies). 7 teams missing from the 2012 season 11 new teams (8 rookies, 2 returning, 1 split) 9 teams are registered for a 2nd regional (anybody else on a waitlist?): New York City: 3314 (1676 on waitlist?) Virginia: 1403, 714 Washington DC: 2590, 303 Palmetto: 11 Las Vegas: 25 Chesapeake: 365, 87 All the teams that were eligible for World CMP are registered: 103 (CCA/HOF) 341 (CCA/HOF) 365 (CCA/HOF) 25 (Einstein '12) Of note: Chesapeake is the same week as MAR Championships, which means that 365 and 87 won't be attending. Should be interesting to see if any others in that group decides to pass on MAR CMP this year. 103 skipped last year, and 25 has the option this year. Regardless, we'll almost certainly have a smaller number of teams at World CMP this year with the almost complete elimination of open pre-registration slots for CMP. Last year we sent 26 teams: 11 Pre-registered 1 Regional Winner (Could have been 2 - 357 won DC but declined CMP) 3 HOF (341 also qualified via winning Boston & MAR) 2 MAR CMP Winners (341 already qualified) 5 MAR by points 2 MAR Chairman's Award 1 MAR Engineering Inspiration 1 MAR Rookie All Star This year: 3 HOF 1 Einstein 12 Slots @ MAR CMP ? Outside Regional Winners (9 chances) Gives us 16 slots, plus any outside regional winners. That number could drop if any of the 4 HOF/Einstein or regional winners end up winning MAR/MAR-CA/MAR-EI, since those spots don't "trickle-down". |

Re: 2012-2013 MAR District Event Schedule
Team Mercury 1089 is wait listed for Chesapeake. We won't be doing the MAR Championship if we are accepted at Chesapeake.
