2013 Lonestar Regional

The 2013 Lonestar Regional's move from one of the last weeks of the season to week 2 of competition season surprised me this year. Before, we used to have a few weeks to practice with practice robots after the crating/bagging of the robot, and in 2012, we've had time to go to another regional to practice before we go to our home regional.

Has this change affected anyone else?

Re: 2013 Lonestar Regional

Yes, the move to week 2 will be interesting. I am wondering if the quality of play will suffer a bit since it will be most teams first event instead of their last.

We will be planning to push our build schedule even more this year since we won't have the chance to get in much drive practice after wrap day.

I'm also happy to see that we are getting several teams from out of state again this year. HI, CO, TN, AR, LA and Mexico are all going to be represented.

Re: 2013 Lonestar Regional

Hey guys!

We're 2438 from Honolulu, Hawaii. This year we decided to compete at two regionals, not just one, and we wanted to (deep breath): face a strong field in an early competition near a major metropolitan area no further east than Texas that still had slots open in the second registration period. (pant, gasp)

In the end, we chose Lone Star!

This is the very first time that our team has ever traveled to a competition outside of Hawaii. Though we've never missed eliminations at the Hawaii regional (we have a long history of losing to 359 in semifinals), we've never before attended Worlds, any offseason events or even another regional. We're excited to be representing the 50th state at Lone Star and hope that you all (y'all?) are as excited for the competition as us!

You picked a great regional to come to as your first venture away from home. We're excited to have another team coming from the islands this year. Let us know if there is anything we can do to make the trip easier for you, always happy to help.

The DiscoBots team looks forward to seeing our pit neighbors from 2012 VEX Worlds. Your shifting VEX Gear drivetrain still leaves me in awe ! We are excited to have y'all come to Texas !

The DiscoBots can relate, we never miss the eliminations, but we have a long history of losing to 118 in the playoffs.

Re: 2013 Lonestar Regional

Team 704 is excited to be returning to the Lone Star Regional. The past few years the turn around between the Dallas Regional and Lone Star has made it impossible for us to compete in both. We look forward to competing with old friends and making some new friends.

Good luck this season at Lone Star.
We had a great time last year in large part due to the friendly atmosphere and the overall competitiveness of the local teams there.
The one thing you will find when attending a mainland regional, is that each and every one will definitely have a different feel than the Hawaii one......and making eliminations is that much tougher as well.

That's why we chose to travel. Gotta learn from diverse sources in order to put together the best program... it's not about winning, it's about learning from the competition.

Thanks for the well-wishes and we'll see you in Hawaii!
