Re: Fun activities for teams?

As we've been working on our core values, we recognized one of those as being to 'have fun'. As a result, we've actually put in place an activities coordinator who just works with finding fun things for us to do. Last month we did a 5th quarter bowling after a football game. Next month we have our annual Laser Tag Lock-in from 12AM - 5AM at a local laser tag facility.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

Over build season we have no "fun" activities that our members partake in, besides watching Football play offs.

During the summer every Thursday we pick a movie that comes out and go to the midnight release. We do this because it is a real experience at our local theaters and very few of our kids could go to one without a big group and adults (alumni, though mentors did show up for The Dark Night Rises). If nothing is coming out that we like then we have a video game day at our main sponsor/mentors house or midnight bowling.

Once school starts back up our kids attend football games, homecoming, and double date together.

Bomb Squad go cart racing. We usually get thrown out - at least the grown-ups do.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

We invite a bunch of the local teams to go paintballing with us (https://www.facebook.com/events/508753419135382/). Its a good way to release some stress..
We also, like many other have movie nights. (chiefly because we will be doing robotics somewhere and person A will say a movie quote/reference that person B can complete but then person C doesn't understand it so person A and B and the whole rest of the team setup a movie night so that person C will understand the reference) We also hold a End-of-Season Pool Party in May where we turn what that years game was into the water game version. Last season before a Saturday morning build everyone got together at a member's house to eat breakfast.

We also sometimes attach leisure activities to some of our robotics events. For example, we were doing at the Boy Scouts Expo last summer in New Orleans City Park. Our part of the event ended around noon, so we spent the rest of the day playing in the park, climbing trees, walking tight ropes, watching ducks in the pond, etc. After demoing at our state capital three years ago we toured the (i believe) official Louisiana museum.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

This year on the off season, our team has been challenging different clubs and sports team to Ultimate Frisbee. So far we have beaten student government and band. Our next opponents are probably going to by JROTC.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

We recently got a group of students and mentors together to go play paintball, we also have a bowling night on the schedule for sometime in the near future.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

We have "S'mores with the Orrs." The team comes over we have a fire in a fire pit, make s'mores, tell stories, and watch a movie. It always a good time. Sometimes we will break out the disc and play some ultimate frisbee.

Re: Fun activities for teams?

One year I had all of the programming team with me driving to Michigan, about a 5 hour drive. When someone would spot a sign with a number it was a race to see who could convert the number to Hex, or the other way.

Exploding Bacon has done many things over the years. Bowling, triva nights, movies and a yearly ice skating night during the holidays. Last month 51 of us went to see Mythbusters.
