Optical sensor wiring with the EDU Robot

I know optical sensor wiring and schematics has been sort of beaten to death, but I still haven't been able to find a satisfactory way for hooking one of them up to the Isaac 16. The EDu Robot's power supply isn't big enough to run them, so the specs say, so we've got two 9 volts powering the things. Only problem is, everyone says we've got to ground it to the RC, but then the power won't run from the batteries. This is my problem. Can anyone help me out?
