Exclamation Getting Them To Know You

Follow some of these SIMPLE ideas-------------
1- You must have a parade day in your town .....set a table up with raffle baskets and show the robot off......do stuff with it also .$1.00 for 1 minute at the control use a digital kitchen timer and bang on a big bell for dramatic effect and to draw attention to your exibit .We made over 1,300 bux and scrounged everything in the raffle baskets. Now 15,000 peeps that attended the event know us.
2-Call a PR or ad company........ they will jump at the chance to work for you. They will write newspaper articles for you.Tell them to write one that shows the community the club but the objctive in the article is to find a sugar daddy to be a big contributor ......they know how to flavor the article .....it worked for us.
3- Have a vid made of your club ......a good one ......call the photogs in your town and tell them " we will give you raw footage can you edit it into a 10 minute video" add some cool music. Then take it to the TV station,Rotary club,VFW ,school board (ask why you are not being funded because you dont wear a jock) how much did they spend on sports in your school and how much on your club??Bring the vid and your bot with lots of students.Do a simple presentationMake a summary chart up showing your expenses.
4- Ask a news reporter to visit your club while you are building your bot or take pics and write the copy and give it to them.We do that 6x a yr.
5- Go read the stuff i posted in FUNDRAISING
6- Print all of these ideas out and pass them out at the next meeting and assign peeps to get the job done. This is not rocket science........you can do it .

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim

Bah. Great thoughts but rather than bringing in a professional PR or videographer...just enlist people to do it for you. We have a PR team that writes our news articles, signs us up for events, and gets us known. Many schools have very nice video recording equipment (even the schools near where I live where my class size is about 70 kids...the schools in this area have some nice equipment). After a little bit of time, getting a good video isn't hard.

Making a video is really easy as long as you have a DV camcorder. They can plug into your computer using a firewire cable and then using a piece of software like Pinnicle Studio(which i recommend) you download the video and edit it as you want. It is really easy. Last night i just made a 16 minute video for school. It has sound effects, a really cool music system that alters the music depending on how long you want it to be and lots of other cool features. I can't stress enough about how easy it is to use though. ANYBODY can do it! Total a camera can cost you between 400-500$(discount retailers) and the software about 50$. It is defenityl worth it for your team to invest in that for PR for following years. Its also great to show new members what the competitions are really about by showing them real footage of the events. Its expensive but worth it(as all things seem to be ). You might be able to rent a camcorder for the events for a small cost.

Thumbs up Video

We had a really cool video done about us. Columbus State Community College works with us so we had their PR department create a 10 min Video. ALso we go to parades and visit local malls and places of that sort!

Well, AFAIK, we never made a video. The school has the equipment...we just don't use it. PR isn't very hard...all you need is a bit of money, phone numbers, and people skills
