Spam is a huge problem with Wiki's...we had one set up just for our team and it would continually get over-run with spam. I'm sure there are methods to reduce or prevent it, but it's tricky. Also, until recently, MediaWiki hasn't been very user-friendly (and it has a long ways to go) which tends to curb adoption.
