My blog on Friday, with regards to Regional slots, was confusing. Sorry about that. Let me try again.

The Regionals listed below all currently have open capacity showing on the Regional page on our website. If you are interested in going to one of these Regionals, and you apply, you will likely be granted a slot right away – depending on how many teams, if any, also apply between the time these words get posted and the time you apply.

Many other regionals still have ‘reserve’ slots open. These are slots we hold back from immediate release to give us the flexibility we need to address specific team issues – such as last-minute rookie entrants, or teams that must go to a specific Regional because of a sponsorship requirement. Even if a Regional you want to go to is not on the list below, you should put your name in for that Regional. We may still find we have space for you when all is said and done.

Greater Toronto West Regional

Western Canadian FRC Regional

Hub City Regional

Las Vegas Regional

Spokane Regional

Pine Tree Regional

Israel Regional

Bayou Regional

Buckeye Regional

More soon.

Frank
I feel like he's watching us.... . On a more positive note, thank you very much for clearing that up, Frank. It's much appreciated .

I remain somewhat surprised that Las Vegas still has spots open - seems like it would be a prime destination for many, looks like it's in a great venue. We're looking forward to it

Most Schools would have reservations of allowing groups to go to Las Vagas due to the nature of the city and how it would reflect on the image of an educational Institution. Our superintendent for example does not allow teachers to attend conferences in Vagas. I am not saying this is why there are open spots, but I presume it could be a cause.

If true...tough deal for schools who are located in Las Vegas

It's certainly not something I've heard of before. Honestly, for me the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Vegas is CES.

Aww, come on...we won't bite We are use to hearing of districts that won't allow their kids to come to our city to compete because of perceptions that are in good part due to media productions and even our own visitors authority marketing focus aimed at enticing adults to play hard and spend prolifically. There is a whole community of regular folks and families who live and even worship here (yes we have actual churches and weddings without Elvis) and even a growing technological community. Sure we are a city of 2 million with the same challenges you find in other large cities...even St. Louis where I feel less safe than here. For those of you with enlightened superintendents and principals, and planning to attend, expect another well run regional event and a great time in and outside of the venue. The level of competition is going to be outstanding (check out the list of many "top 20" teams signed up). If you can't join us, be sure to catch another webcast sponsored by Team 987!

Re: FRC Blogged - Blog Clarification

I will certainly step up and say that the Las Vegas Regional was a bunch of fun for our team when we went a few years back. It is a natural if you have to fly because often the airfares are very reasonable. We found a local hotel that was nice and reasonable in cost also.

We made some great friends there and always keep an eye on that regional.
The only reason we have not been back is that our state has been adding new regionals and we have been trying to support all of them.

To be honest, other than a few flyers littering the streets, the event was no different at all from any others. The "shady" nature of Las Vegas is mostly hype and as long as you have proper chaperones ... it is a great place to play!

I would encourage any team to look into it. The people running the regional are warm and cordial and you will feel right at home.

We are really excited to play at LV! Thanks for all you do to make it a great regional.

As a site note, one of the nicest Catholic churches I've been to was in Las Vegas. Incidentally, I was there for a wedding.

I tried to convince 79 to go went to DC instead (a city with a probably more well deserved reputation for ripping people off)... Maybe I'll make it out to Defcon or Blackhat this year though.

Las Vegas really is well run event, routinely the most pleasant and fun we attend in any given year. It's hard to say exactly what they do right... it's just nice.

For us was a real tossup this year between LV and CV this year for our 2nd regional, CV was great but from what I'm hearing LV is also stellar. I'm sure we'll see you guys at LA again, can't wait to see what you build

Team 341 is really excited about attending the LVR this year.
Having met some really nice folks from 987 at Champs last year, convinced me that they are a class act. The list of teams is just fun, including 5 international teams. The only thing we are struggling with right now is that airfares are very high for that weekend. But I am sure we will get it figured out. We are looking forward to making some new friends in Las Vegas!

That may not be the case if it's presented differently to the powers that be. It's Las Vegas. I seriously doubt a (moderately funded) team would have lower than a 2:1 adult:student ratio, so convincing a school district there will be plenty of chaperones is easy. When we went in 2007, there were 17 adults for 7 kids. Not only was the competition a blast, I hardly slept.

Or they could just rename the event to be the Mojave Regional, Hoover Dam Regional, etc.
