c-RIO first time setup

Okay we just purchased a new C-RIO (8-slot) but need help in setting it up. Read that as 'image' it. We have all the Labview programs from last year (2012) but just can't find the location/program/util to perform this task.

We sure like the help of the great CD people here. Many thanks.

Re: c-RIO first time setup

FRC 2012 cRIO Imaging Tool is it's proper name.
It gets installed with the FRC Utilities update (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2262).
If installed, you should see the icon for it on your desktop.

Re: c-RIO first time setup

Follow the directions in the 2012 Getting Started document. Imaging the cRIO starts on page 16.

Re: c-RIO first time setup

Many thanks to all of you that have helped us out, so far we seem to making some progress.

What we have working is the Labview 2012 default code. It will at least make our test bed robot drive. So far we have figured out the “run arrow” when in ‘Robot Main.vi’ that allows the code to deploy and run but we are trying to figure out what to do in order to make the program permanent on the c-RIO. We found the ‘FRC Robot Boot-up Deployment’ section and can see that it uses the Robot Main.vi as the source file but after it runs we have no idea what to do.
Could some one help us out with, hopefully very descriptive directions. Many thanks.

Re: c-RIO first time setup

In the Getting Started document is the following:
Refer to the LabVIEW Robotics Programming Guide for the FIRST Robotics Competition for more information about the cRIO and other programming procedures. You can access this guide by selecting the Tutorials tab on the LabVIEW Getting Started window, by navigating to the Progam Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\manuals\FRC Programming Guide directory and opening index.html or by browsing to http://www.ni.com/info and entering “FRCTutorials” for the Info Code.
You'll want to read the Building and Deploying a Stand-Alone Application section. Most of what it tells you is already taken care of when you create a new FRC Robot Project and you won't have to make any changes to the Build Specifications. The two important steps are to Build the application (which creates the standalone executable file that can run on the cRIO), then Run as startup (which copies the newly built file to the cRIO and ensures it will start running when the cRIO reboots).
